Dorothy Katherine Brower Brown, 90, our beloved mother, grandma, sister, and friend passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Bountiful, Utah.
She was born November 28, 1927, in Blackfoot, Idaho to Kate Locke and George Stephen Brower. She spent her youth in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School in 1946. She then moved to Rexburg to attended Ricks College, and it was there she met and married her companion of 70 years, Douglas Brown, on July 18, 1947, in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Together they became the loving parents to seven children, and as their family grew they loved seeing their children and grandchildren happy and actively enjoying life and helping others. Dorothy loved and planned her schedule around attending their many activities and sporting events.
Dorothy’s life was filled with service. In addition to holding many church callings, she was philanthropic as she spent many years in volunteer service. Most recently, reading with children at Oak Hills Elementary and as a hostess at the LDS Church Office Building. She often spoke of her good neighbors and life-long friends, whom she loved dearly. She loved interacting and conversing with those around her, and genuinely cared about everyone.
Dorothy and Douglas served in the New Zealand Wellington mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dorothy always cherished the experience, and her love for New Zealand and its people continued throughout her lifetime.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dorothy’s testimony of Jesus Christ, her Savior, never wavered and her devotion and love to the Gospel of Jesus Christ deeply influenced her family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, just four weeks ago; and their son, Duane (JoAnn) Brown. She is survived by her six children: Linda (Alvin) Anderson, David (Maryelen), Connie (Guy) Mangum, Deborah (John) Harding, Michael (Kimberly), Tamra (Kent) Hansen.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Woodland Hills LDS Ward, 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, Utah at 10:30 a.m. Viewing from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested contributions to be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian program.
