Dorothy Jensen Bertin

April 21, 1922 — April 9, 2018

Dorothy Jensen Bertin died on April 9, 2018 at age 95 in an assisted living center in Bountiful, Utah from pneumonia.

Dorothy was born in Logan, Utah, on April 21, 1922, the daughter of Lars Mentor Jensen and Rose M. Jensen.  She was the oldest of four children.

She attended Logan city schools and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College, now known as Utah State University.  While attending college, she worked as a cashier and secretary for Intermountain Theaters.  It was while she was attending college that she met her husband, J. Conrad Bertin.  When he returned from serving in the Navy, they were married on December 24, 1945.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.  Two children were born to this couple, a son Kim and a daughter Christine.

Shortly after their marriage, Dorothy and Con moved Blackfoot, Idaho, where Con signed a contract as a teacher and coach at Blackfoot High School.  Dorothy taught language arts at the Blackfoot Middle School for eighteen years.  For many years she was sponsor of the Honor Society, and for several years she was chairperson of the English Department at the Middle School.  Dorothy lived in her own home in Blackfoot from 1948 until 2016 when she moved into an assisted living center in Bountiful, Utah.

Dorothy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She enjoyed the many callings that she received.  At various times she served in the Primary, Mutual, Sunday School, Relief Society, and the genealogy program.  Her most recent calling before leaving Blackfoot was as the Visiting Teacher Coordinator in the Sixth Ward.  Her longest time serving in a calling was fourteen years in the extraction program in addition to several years at the Family History Center.

She enjoyed a long-time membership in Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international teacher's organization, and at various times served as secretary, president and treasurer during her membership.  She was a charter member of Zonta, a service organization, in Blackfoot, and during her membership she served as secretary, vice president, president and treasurer.

Dorothy enjoyed several hobbies but her greatest joy was being with her family and sharing activities with them.  She was an amazing seamstress, tole painter and gardener.  Her yard was always beautiful.

She is survived by her daughter Christine and her son, Kim, his wife Jennifer, their five children and ten grandchildren.

A family and friend gathering will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful at 10:15 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 13.  Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
