Dorothy Linden Young
October 26 1937-Nov. 3 2015
Dorothy passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home of natural causes at the age of 78. She was born in Portland, OR to Arthur and Cressa (Rita) Linden, the youngest of 2 daughters. She lost her hearing at the age of 13 months from Rubella and never let that stop her from doing what she wanted. She graduated from Gallaudet College for the deaf in Washington D.C. in 1960 with a B.S. in Physical Education where she was a member of Phi Kappa Zeta. She then taught at the School for the Deaf and Blind for 7 years in Ogden, UT. She loved playing and teaching sports, especially basketball, tennis and badminton. She joined the LDS church in 1961 and had an unwavering testimony of the Godhead and family history work. She married her eternal companion Fay Richard Young in the SLC temple on June 2, 1967 and later moved to Woods Cross, UT where she lived the rest of her life. Together they had 4 beautiful children. She served in many church callings and especially enjoyed teaching in Relief Society and serving with the deaf community. She began doing family history research in 1967 by hiring a Swedish researcher to help with her family line and learned a lot of Swedish along the way. She later served as a family history missionary and dedicated many years of her life in the Spirit of Elijah. She found thousands of family names for temple work and is now being welcomed with open arms and grateful hearts by those whom she devoted so much of her time to find. She was known for her kind smile and innocent nature. Throughout her life, she enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz, canning fruits and vegetables, and traveling with her husband. She loved to see those around her smiling. She could often be found signing "Be happy and smile". She was a loving mother and grandmother and took great pride in seeing their accomplishments. Dorothy is survived by her husband Fay, daughter Rebecca (Mark) Pettit, grandsons Aaron, Jared and Taylor; son Benjamin (Heather) Young, grandsons Linden (serving in the Kiev, Ukraine mission) and Marshall; son Andrew Young, granddaughters Ridley and Harper; and daughter Cindy Jacobson, grandkids Caitlin, Jordan and Sadie. She is preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, parents and sister Margaret Tilden. Funeral services will be held Saturday Nov 7th at 11:00am at the SLC 1st deaf ward located at 768 East 700 South SLC, with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:45am for friends and family. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com.
