January 27, 1938 – July 29, 2014
Dorothy Jean (Sanders) Lytle passed away peacefully in her home July 29th, 2014. Dorothy was the fourth of eight children born to Elden and Isabelle Sanders. She and her 6 brothers and one sister grew up in the small town of Otto Wyoming where she was baptized in a pond, attended a 3 room schoolhouse and learned to drive at age 11. She developed a life-long love of books and as a teenager she would read as she tended her mothers Belles Store. She also enjoyed singing and was in several musicals at Greybull High School. She attended Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyoming and then graduated from the University of Wyoming where she met her husband, Kent Lytle. She earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. On July 19, 1960, Dorothy was married for time and all eternity to Kent in the Idaho Falls Temple. They lived in Wyoming and Montana before making their home in Salt Lake City Utah. But she was always very proud of her Wyoming roots.
They lived in the Yale 1st Ward for 45 years where they raised their 7 childrenfive sons and two daughters. She earned the Eagle Scouting Award five different times with a little help from her sons. Dorothy was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and honored her pioneer heritage as she served her camp well. She also served in many church callings with dedication and selflessness. She was known for her quick wit, positive attitude, and her fun sense of humor. Neighbors will remember her for her welcoming home and her July 4th breakfasts. She often hosted the Relief Society and various Church parties in her backyard.
Strong family ties were very important to her. To promote this she started the Sanders Family Newsletter for all the Sanders posterity. Nieces and nephews could always count on an e-mail from Aunt Dorothy every week. It contained birthdays, announcements, good news and a whatever section at the end. She treasured her 26 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; she never missed a baby blessing, baptism or Eagle Scout court of honor. They will remember her for her yearly carnival, the basketball pizza parties, the books she gave, and hundreds of snowflakes she crocheted to give them as gifts.
She is survived by her husband, Kent, 7 children Michael (Nancy) Lytle of Laramie, Wyoming, Marlin (Lesli) Lytle of Layton, Utah, Carter (Tami) Lytle of Salem, Utah, Curt Lytle of West Valley, Utah, Paula (Ian) Spencer of Riverton, Utah, Janna (Brett) Hansen of West Valley, Utah, and Jonathan (Lyndi) Lytle of Magna, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
A viewing will be held Sunday August 3 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 S. 200 E. SLC from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and Monday August 4 at the Yale Ward, 1431 Gilmer Ave. from 9:30-10:30 am. Funeral services are at 11:00 am.
