Dorothy Petty Henderson

May 4, 1927 — March 25, 2019

Dorothy Petty Henderson was born May 4, 1927 to William Dorris and Emma Louise Johnson Petty in the small, tight knit community of Swan Lake, Idaho. She passed on to be with her sweetheart Dan Brady Henderson and her Savior, Jesus Christ on March 25, 2019.

Her early years were spent helping on their family farm with her brother and three sisters. She loved school and made many friends who she holds dear and kept in contact with through the years. After graduating from high school, she received a scholarship of $25.00 to attend BYU. Tuition for one year was $75.00. If she paid for the whole year in advance, she would get a 50% discount. With her scholarship she paid $12.50 and that was the best $12.50 she ever paid for anything because it was at BYU she met and fell in love with her eternal companion Dan. They were married in the Logan Temple on June 7th 1948. They started their married life in Visalia, California moving on to Salt Lake City then Provo, Utah. Burley, Idaho was followed by their final stop in Bountiful, Utah. Their union brought six wonderful, caring children (if we do say so ourselves) into this life. She worked at South Davis Community Hospital, had a pre-school in her home for 12 years and then worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Temple Department. In 1983 her dream of becoming a college graduate came true. She graduated with a degree in General Studies where she learned a little bit about everything and not a whole lot about one thing. We were so proud of her accomplishment. Together mom and dad showed us what service looked like. They served all they came in contact with. They especially loved serving in various callings in their church. They served missions to Aba Nigeria and Oakland California Visitors Center. They also served in the Bountiful Temple. Their last years were spent at Legacy House where they met many wonderful people. Residents and employees were numbered among their friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her sweetheart of 68 years Dan, her parents and all of her siblings and their spouses. Keith and Gail Petty, Kay and Alene Richardson, Roy and Anna Fillmore, Conn and Vera Jean Housley and three little siblings who passed in infancy, William Harvey, Mildred and Phyllis. What a glorious reunion. She is survived by the aforementioned marvelous children, Sheryl Henderson, Dennis and Christine Parkin, Monte and Karen Munns, Dallin and Carol Henderson, Jay and Teresa Henderson and Curtis and Annette Thornock. She is also survived by 85 of the best grandchildren and great grandchildren ever with three more on the way and by a sister-in-law Nada Floisand.

Funeral services will be held at the Bountiful Tabernacle, 55 South Main St, Bountiful, Utah on Saturday March 30 at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family may visit on Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Saturday morning 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. We would like to thank the staff at Legacy House and Symbii Home Health and Hospice for their kindness and compassion. Mother loved you.
