Douglas Dean Allen

Douglas Dean Allen, 88, born on July 28, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah passed away on May 24, 2018 in Provo, Utah.  He is the son of Louis Dean Allen and Edith Lillian Haddock Allen.  Doug was raised in the greater Los Angeles area.  After his graduation from High School Doug attended Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah where he met his future wife, Marilyn Klea Miles in a science class on the old Lower Campus.  Doug earned his B.A. in Economics from Brigham Young University.  He married his college sweetheart on March 16, 1951 in the Salt Lake City Temple.  Marilyn and Doug raised two sons:  Jeffrey Douglas Allen (Leann Bair) and David Miles Allen (Lauri Whipperman).  Prior to raising their family, Doug served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps (Army CIC) during the Korean War.  He was stationed in Yokohama, Japan during his service.

After Doug’s military service Doug and Marilyn lived in San Francisco and Santa Rosa, California where they started their family.  Upon his return to the United States Doug began working for Westinghouse Corporation.  In 1959 Doug took a new position with the A.B. Chance Company and the family relocated to Bountiful, Utah where they settled down and raised their family.  Doug worked for A.B. Chance until his retirement July 29, 1994.  Doug was serving as one of the Company’s Regional Vice-Presidents when he retired.

Throughout Doug’s life, he was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Doug accepted callings in many capacities in the Church, including Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader, Bishop and Bishopric Counselor, Stake Executive Secretary and High Councilor.  Doug and Marilyn served several full-time missions for the Church.  Their missions included serving in the Member Records Department in Church headquarters and driving the Church van between the Salt Lake Airport and Temple Square.  They also served a proselytizing mission to India where Doug served in the Mission Presidency and a service mission to the Philippines where Doug and Marilyn served as employment specialists.  Doug has fond and proud memories of all their mission activities.

Since 1959 home was always Bountiful for Doug and Marilyn.  They built their family home in 1965 where they remained (except for their temporary mission and work assignments) until shortly before Marilyn’s death in 2016.  While living in Bountiful Doug and Marilyn developed many lifelong friends and shared experiences which they held dear to their hearts their entire lives.

Doug is preceded in death by his mother, father, and wife.  He will be sorely missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  They all love him dearly.  Doug left an eternal legacy and was a towering example to his family and all with whom he shared his life experience.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Canyon Park Ward chapel, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful Utah, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10:00 am.  A viewing will precede the services from 8:30 – 9:30 am, at the same location.
