Douglas Derald Brown, 91, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Bountiful, Utah.
Douglas was born August 6, 1926, in Rexburg, Idaho to Constance Ricks and James Earl Brown.
He graduated from Madison High School in 1944 where he excelled in Music and Theater, and was his class Valedictorian. He served in the US Army Air Corps as a B-24 Flight Engineer and trainer at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada, which started his lifelong love of airplanes and flying
He graduated from Ricks College with an Associate of Arts and Science. It was there he met and married his sweetheart, Dorothy Brower, on July 18, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Douglas worked over 50 years in the insurance industry, including owning his own agency for 29 years. He expressed his love of music through singing and participated in several community choirs and men’s quartets. He loved family history and received much joy in connecting ancestors to their families.
Douglas and Dorothy served in the New Zealand Wellington mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Douglas always cherished the experience, and his love for New Zealand and its people continued throughout his lifetime.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Douglas’s testimony of Jesus Christ, his Savior, never wavered and his devotion and love to the Gospel of Jesus Christ deeply influenced his family and friends.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings and son, Duane Brown. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six children: Linda (Alvin) Anderson, David (Maryelen), JoAnn (Ron) Brown-Corbet, Connie (Guy) Mangum, Deborah (John) Harding, Michael (Kimberly), Tamra (Kent) Hansen; 32 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter; his sister, JoAnn (Lee) Reed, and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful, from 6 – 7:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Woodland Hills LDS Ward, 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, Utah at 11:00 a.m. Viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors.
