Douglas Jay Lang, 69, of Kaysville, Utah passed away peacefully the night of December 10, 2024. He was born June 28, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Parley Jay Lang and Elise Clark Richards. He was the oldest of four children.
Doug grew up in Bountiful, Utah and enjoyed participating in the scouting program in his younger years. He graduated from Viewmont High School and went on to study at Dixie State College. Doug loved to reminisce about his time in the Dixie State Chamber Choir with Mrs. D. and as the kicker for the football team. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Oakland California Mission. Upon his return, Doug married Debra Ann Carlson on July 11, 1980 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 4 children and have 8 grandchildren. He sure loved “the redhead” and missed her terribly when she passed on.
Doug went back to school and completed his bachelor’s degree in public relations from Weber State University. He went on to work at the Deseret Industries for 25 years. He had a way of making people feel important and needed at work. Doug brought the fun wherever he went. You could often find Doug with a mask on his face making his co-workers or family laugh.
Debbie was the party planner and Doug was the life of the party. He enjoyed making people laugh. He was always cracking jokes, teasing, dancing, or dressing up just to get a smile out of someone. His funny one-liners became affectionately known around our family as “Doug-isms.” He was friendly to everyone and would talk to anyone. He loved children and found great joy in giving them candy or acting as one of “Santa’s helpers” each December. He truly was a jolly man.
Doug loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and he loved his family. He left an example of faith, obedience, and love for Jesus Christ and all of God’s children. He created great memories for his children and grandchildren. We hope his reunion with Debbie is “just out of control.”
Doug is survived by his four children: Dixie (Nate) Packer, Denise, Dyan (Barry) Hill, and Derek; eight grandchildren: Maddie, Ryan, Ellie, Blake, Jackson, Brooklyn, Kamri, and Karsyn and his siblings: Susan and Tim. He is preceded in death by his wife Debbie, his parents Parley and Elise Lang, step mother Elaine Lang, his in-laws Glen and Nila Carlson, and his brother Steve.
