Douglas Ross Davis

Douglas Ross Davis passed away just after midnight on July 13th, 2022, after a year-long battle with a rare brain condition that caused numerous small strokes. He was surrounded by his loved ones in the days leading up to his passing.

He is survived by his wife Susan Summers, brothers Gregory (Catherine) Davis and Rodney (Jeffrey Baker) Davis, sons Jeffrey (Christopher Machen) Davis, Alexander (Meghan) Davis and grandchildren Evan, Graham and Aurora. He was preceded in death and welcomed home by his parents Ross and Mary Davis.

Douglas was born on April 17th, 1952, and was the second of three boys. He grew up in Bountiful in a home on 100 E across the street from and next door to his cousins, and loved working in his grandfather’s cherry orchard. As a teenager, he started a long tradition of Eagle Scouts in the Bountiful 2nd Ward. He excelled at school and attended Stoker Elementary, Bountiful Jr. High,and Bountiful High School where he received the Sterling Scholar for Math and was a four-state debate champion. He attended college at the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications.

He served as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Florida and Alabama from 1971-1973. He served as an Assistant to the President, and then, for his last three months, as a tour guide in Nauvoo.

He met his beautiful wife Susan in a local production of ‘Cinderella’. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on March 18th, 1975. They enjoyed 47 wonderful years together, 40 of which were in a home in Bountiful that Doug built himself. He raised his two sons as a stay-at-home dad for 17 years before returning to work.

He excelled in his career at Fidelity Investments as a CFP. He ended his 20-year tenure as a VP managing director where he took care of very large clients who came to love his personality, service and knowledge.

Douglas was always kind and spent much of his time in service to his family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Much of that service was in the Oak Hills Ward, including many years as Scout Master, Elders Quorum President, Bishopric Counselor, and High Councilor, among other callings. He was well known as a talented instructor and speaker.

His wife and family were the most important part of his life but he enjoyed many different hobbies and pastimes. He loved flowers, especially orchids, and tended a beautiful garden in his yard and greenhouse. He had a great love of reading and writing and served on the Davis County Library Board for many years. He loved card games and board games which he taught to his children. He played Bridge into the very last year of his life. He loved to travel and was blessed to go on many trips with family and friends. He especially enjoyed visiting Hawaii with his wife Susan to whom he is eternally devoted.

He will be greatly missed and was a shining example of how to be a good friend, neighbor, son, husband, father and grandfather.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday July 18th, 2022, at the Bountiful LDS Church, 506 South 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, and Monday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
