Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Douglas Stevenson Romney, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2015.
He was born in Marysville, California on July 30, 1943 to Elmer Stevenson and Dorothy Spande Romney. He grew up in San Francisco, Stockton, and Marysville, California. He graduated from UC Davis and got a Masters Degree in Library Science from UC Berkeley, then began working in the Marriott Library at the University of Utah. A few years later, he earned an MBA from the U.
When Doug’s mother passed away in 1968, he was drafted into the army. He spent the next two years back in California at Fort Irwin where he served in the medical unit. He returned to work at the library at the U of U where he met a red-headed freshman, Carol Howe, and they married two years later.
Douglas joined the National Guard and served for 26 years, retiring as Sergeant First Class at age 60. He loved his country and serving it. He retired 5 years ago as a librarian for the LDS Church, having worked there 24½ years. He is a High Priest and served in many callings in the LDS Church.
Doug enjoyed gardening and kept a beautiful yard. He loved tennis, photography, and exercising at the gym. He loved taking family vacations. Just one week before he passed away, he returned from a 15-day cruise through the Panama Canal with Carol and Paul. He especially loved Alaska and took 3 cruises there and Yellowstone Park was almost an annual trip.
Doug is survived by his wife Carol, son Paul, and daughter Angela (Jeff McBride), Centerville, and grandchildren Connor, Carly, Ethan, and Andrew McBride. He also has a half-sister, Eva Lou Featherstone. He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother, Russell Romney.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Centerville 2nd Ward, 1475 North 50 East, Centerville. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. and also on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful. Interment in Centerville City Cemetery.
