1939 Bones 2025

Doyal E Jones

April 3, 1939 — April 19, 2025

Doyal E “Bones” Jones, 86, passed away surrounded by his daughters on April 19th after a brief illness.

Bones was born on April 3, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edison DeLyle Jones and Nelda Weist Jones. He grew up in Bountiful, Utah and regularly rode his bike to the Lagoon amusement park to use his season pass. Bones participated in Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout. He served in the United States Army Reserves and then graduated from Weber State with a degree in music. Bones married Bever Lee “Worky” Workman in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on March 18, 1960. They welcomed three beautiful, precious, devoted daughters: Julie “the jewel”; Tamie “Worky’s favorite”; and then ten(ish) years later, Sherie, who was the “best little mistake” they ever made.

Grandpa loved music. He played the piano and steel guitar by ear and played clarinet in his college band. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, and watching Jazz games. He LOVED the Andy Griffith Show, specifically his hero Barney Fife. He loved vintage cars, especially his ‘57 Chevy. Bones was an avid collector of Budweiser Christmas beer steins; he had every one ever made thanks to the herculean efforts of his daughters. (Please contact us if you are interested in purchasing the entire set. Bring your own boxes. Delivery not available.) Bones did NOT care for grasshoppers and fingerprints on cars and walls. He couldn’t understand why anyone would ever buy a white car or a Ford. We thought Bones might outlive us all because he had a full head of hair with barely any greys, even at age 86.

Bones is survived by daughters Julie (Marc) Bolton, Tamie Graves, Sherie (Paul) Knott. He is also survived by grandchildren Lindsay “Martha” (Bryan) Merrill, Michelle (James) Petmecky, David “David L” (Tayler) Bolton, Skyler Graves, Whitney “That Girl” (Vince) Dimov, Riley (Carol) Graves, and Annalee Knott. Bones had quite a legacy and is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Carter, and McKay Merrill; Eliza, Tucker, and Lucy Petmecky; and Asher and Emilia Dimov. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Bever Lee.
