Doyle Tanner

May 20, 1928 — April 7, 2012

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Doyle Boyd Tanner, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2012 surrounded by his family after suffering a stroke and complications. He was born on May 20, 1928 in Weston, Idaho to Ruby Jensen and William John Tanner. He attended Preston High School, Preston, Idaho where he was very athletic, participated in several sports including boxing in which he won the Golden Glove Award. After high school, he served an LDS mission to the Central Atlantic States Mission. He attended the University of Idaho in Moscow prior to his mission. Later, while attending Utah State University, he met and married Lauretta Frank from Providence, Utah. Due to his great love for his country, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving for several years. After finishing his Masters Degree at USU, he taught elementary school in Idaho and Utah. He loved teaching and learning throughout his life. Using his carpentry and handy-man skills, he worked for Zion Security doing facility maintenance until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors and could be found fishing, camping, hiking, hunting or skiing depending on the season. He enjoyed painting and sketching God’s beautiful creations. He enjoyed singing with various choirs in both the church and community. He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in various callings, humanitarian projects, welfare farms, family history work and many years in the Scouting program. He had a zest for life in work or play and always approached life with a positive attitude and a good sense of humor as he was always quick to tell a joke or a story.
Doyle is survived by Lauretta, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Sandra Walton (David), Kayalauna Kuhn, Dianne Morgan (Bryan); 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; sisters, Joyce Carnahan (Carlos) and Carol Allen (Ron). He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, parents, and two brothers. He will be greatly missed by those who have known and loved him.
