Duane C Price

August 18, 1926 — June 10, 2022

Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Duane C. Price,  passed away peacefully on June 10, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Duane was born August 18, 1926 in Maeser, Utah to Absalom Price and Mamie Arline Carpenter Price.  He has 4 siblings: Shirley, Dan, Boyd, and Marilyn.

When Duane was 9 years old, his mother passed away and he and his siblings had to grow up fast.   One of the chores Duane had to take over at this young age was making bread for the family.  It helped him develop his favorite meal of bread and milk.  He grew up through the depression where he learned to work hard and to be frugal.

At age 17, Duane joined the Navy during WWII and was assigned to a Minesweeper in the Pacific Theater.  As a young man in the war, he made the decision early to live a life focused on the Savior and service to the Lord and others.  This devotion to faithfulness and service was demonstrated throughout his life.  One of his favorite memories during the war was meeting up with his brother Dan in the Philippines during deployments.  One of his proudest moments was sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge into the San Francisco Harbor when returning from the war.

After his service in WWII, Duane served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Central States Mission – primarily in Minnesota.  He served honorably and at the end of his mission he bought a car and drove home to Vernal, Utah.

He started college at Brigham Young University as a single man and later graduated from BYU with 8 children.  All were in attendance at his graduation.

He was married to his sweetheart, Eula Pearl Sessions on June 16, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple.  They have been married for 72 years.  They met when he was home from BYU and went on a blind date.  Duane was dared by her friends to hide in the back seat of the car and when Eula got in, to jump up and kiss her.  He did! And it worked! As they say, “the rest is history!”  Eula was the love of his life and he treated her with kindness and love to the very end.  He was a true gentleman, always opening the door for her, helping her with her coat, assisting her in and out of the car, and always holding her hand.

Duane and Eula settled in Vernal, Utah and began to build their family.  Six of their eight children were born in Vernal.  His position with the State of Utah Employment Security Services offered him a job in Provo which facilitated a move to Orem and was the birthplace of his last two children, and also provided the opportunity to finish his degree at BYU.  His employment later took him to Heber City, Utah and eventually to Salt Lake City, Utah.  He and Eula resided in Centerville, Utah for many years.  He retired as the Director of Unemployment Insurance Services for the State of Utah.

His family was his first priority and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Duane was a man of service.  He served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings including as a missionary, twice as a Bishop, member of a Stake Presidency, and in the Presidency of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple.

He served four missions.  One as a young man as mentioned above, and three with his wife, Eula.  Together they served in England, South Africa, and Hawaii.  He loved to serve the Lord and gave much time in His service.  One of his greatest frustrations in his later years was the inability to provide service as he liked to do.

Duane is survived by his loving wife Eula, children Arlene (Todd) Carlile, Debbie (Gale) Mair, Keith (Jennifer), Teri (Steven) Burgin, Gary (Julie), Brent (Carolyn), Douglas (Tracie), Daryl (Laurel); 34 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, and his dear sister, Marilyn Hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Absalom and Mamie, his brothers, Shirley, Dan, and Boyd, and his daughter-in-law, Tina Price.

As a family we would like to say thank you to the Legacy House staff where he resided for the past three years. We are also very grateful for the loving care he received from the Hospice staff, especially Donnette Hurst, and to Russon Mortuary for their kind and respectful service to our family.
