Duane L Gardner

October 17, 1929 — July 7, 2016

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully in his sleep at home after a valiant struggle with CHF, on July 7, 2016. Duane was born in Afton, Wyoming to Lloyd and Melba Jensen Gardner on October 17, 1929. He married his high school sweetheart, Aleen Margie Armstrong Gardner in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, August 10, 1949 and they were blessed with four wonderful children: Robert (Eme), Las Vegas, NV; Steven (Jana), Idaho Falls, ID; Janet Gardner Carrigan (Scott), Kaysville, UT; Douglas (Jana), Henderson, NV; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Duane was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many ward and stake positions. He and Aleen served together on two church service missions, as guides in the Conference Center and also in the Member Location Department.
Duane was a “true blue” BYU Cougar fan and graduate, and enjoyed going to and watching all of the games with his family. He served as Cougar Club National President and Chapter President, Alumni Association Board of Directors, Marriott School of Management Alumni Board, and many other university committees. He also served on many city and state committees. He earned certifications in the insurance industry as LUTC, CLU and FLMI in addition to his BYU degree in Economics.
He spent his career in the life insurance business working his way up from Agent to Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Grange Mutual Life and Beneficial Life. He also served as President of Continental Western Life and on the board of directors of Utah Home Fire.
Duane is survived by his immediate family, many nieces, nephews and cousins; sister, Ranae Rogerson, Salt Lake City, UT; and half brothers and sisters, Jerry, Linda, Royce, Marie, Randy, and Karalee. Preceded in death by his sweetheart, Aleen; their son Robert; his parents Lloyd and Melba Jensen, and step-mother, Alba; brother Arden and half-brother Rick.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Stonecreek LDS Ward, 1475 North 300 West, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Wednesday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 East Crestwood Road.
