Duane Roberts Ford – born on June 26, 1933 in Centerville, Utah – returned heavenward on January 20, 2020. Duane was the fifth of Rulon and Arvilla Ford’s nine children and was raised on the family farm in Centerville. From his upbringing, he learned to value hard work, determination and nature, and in turn, instilled this same love to his children and grandchildren. He attended Davis High School, Utah State University and the University of Utah, served a mission to Uruguay for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, enlisted in the army, serving a tour in Germany and afterward graduated from the U of U. Soon after, Duane married his sweetheart, Lora Barker, on September 10, 1959. They then moved to Seattle where their first three children were born. They later returned to Bountiful, UT and had six more children, where Duane lived until his passing.
Duane was much more than a list of accomplishments and life events, he was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. He would call you on the phone, just to chat, show up at your doorstep with fresh apricots he just picked, and always gave you the greatest “grandpa” hug. He was the biggest cheerleader at sporting events, graduations, dance recitals and choir concerts. His sports teams were the Utes and the Jazz, but more importantly any team his kids or grandkids were playing on. With 9 children, 31 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, he always had a team to cheer for.
Duane loved anything musical, and was often moved to tears while listening to or watching The Sound of Music, The Scarlet Pimpernel or The Impossible Dream. He was thrifty and knew where all the best gas prices could be found. He craved adventures, and loved to travel to new destinations with his family, or find a new adventure on the way to visit his family. His hard work was always matched with his generosity. Duane loved people. He always had a smile on his face, a hug to give or a kind word to say. He wore the pride and love he had for his family in every smile and will be missed dearly until he is reunited with them again.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Rulon & Arvilla, three siblings and grandchildren: Shaun & Shannon Ford. He is survived by his wife, Lora of 60 years, and his children, Martin (Sheryl) Ford, Walton (Cindy) Ford, Nanette (Kim W.) Reid, Kimberly Ford, Barrett (Jodi) Ford, Jerrold (Michelle) Ford, Jolynn (Bart) Reese, Ruston (Monica) Ford, Karalee (Steve) Alvillar.
