Edgar Denny

November 10, 1925 — January 13, 2011

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend Edgar Martell Denny, died peacefully on January 13, 2011. A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he touched many lives through his selfless service. He was a compassionate leader, a trusted counselor, and an inspiring public speaker. All who knew him were blessed by his deep wisdom and gracious example. Edgar was born November 10, 1925 in Beaver, Utah. The oldest of three children, he was raised in Park City, Utah and later moved to Salt Lake, graduating from South High School in 1944. After high school he enlisted in the Navy and served on a submarine during World War II. Edgar married his sweetheart, Eula Jane Peterson, on August 20, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. After he graduated from Utah State University and Weber State College, they settled in Bountiful where they raised seven daughters and three sons. Edgar worked for the Utah Department of Employment Security for many years, eventually becoming state administrator. While working there he returned to college, graduating from law school at the University of Utah, all while raising his large family. Upon retirement in 1977, he fulfilled a lifelong passion and became a partner at Carls Fine Cars. Edgar served faithfully in many church callings including Bishop, Stake President, Patriarch, Mission President, and President of the Salt Lake Temple. Edgar and Eula were loving companions and were married for over 50 years. After her death he married Vera Homan and later Norma Noel. Edgars life was greatly enriched by the love of three kind and generous women. Edgar had great love for opera, reading the classics, writing poetry, and singing. He was an avid fisherman and a handy tinkerer. Some of his happiest times were spent with a bowl of popcorn in hand surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He is survived by a large loving family. Children: Kalyn Denny, Sandee (Clayton) Draper, Pam (Kelly) Willey, Mark (Lisa) Denny, Janet (Jon) Howell, Vida (Dan) Clark, David (Amy) Denny, Laurel (Carl) Stouffer, Rand Denny, and Valerie (Jon) Ostler. Step-children: Bobbi (Rick) Harrington, Peni (Dennis) Waite, Fletcher(Claudia) Noel, Karyn Noel, John (Betty) Champlin, Genie Champlin, Jerry Champlin, and Kimberly (Barry) Hunter. Edgar has 39 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren plus 29 step-grandchildren and 32 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Eula Peterson Denny, Vera Homan Denny, and Norma Noel Denny, parents Albert and Anna Denny, brother Howard Denny, and sister Ruth Ann Thorne. Friends are invited to call on Thursday January 20, from 6-8:00 P.M. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, or Friday from 11:30-12:30 prior to services. The funeral service will be Friday, January 21, at 1:00 P.M. in the Bountiful Tabernacle, 51 South Main Street. We express gratitude to Legacy House of Bountiful, Rocky Mountain Hospice Care, Bountiful Third Ward, Edgars step-children, and the spousal support group for the loving care and friendship extended to our father. We love you dad, and will think of you each time we drink a root beer.
