Our sweet mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and dear friend passed away peacefully at her home in Bountiful that her husband built, over 60 years ago. She was 96 years old, born in Logan Utah, the 5th of seven children born to Thomas Greaves and Zina Hawkley Rowland. She grew up in Salt Lake City on Yale Ave, where she has many fond memories. She graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah where she admits she was the family outcast, Utah State being the school of their tradition. She married Clarence Albert Keate Jr. on October 8, 1942, the love of each other's lives. They shared 62 happy years together before he passed away in 2004. They are the parents of five children. Jeffrey (Jolene), Steven (Susan), Kevin, Kathleen Thompson, and Kelly (Danny) Brock. Eighteen grandchildren and 37 great – grandchildren.
Edie loved her years serving with the youth in the LDS Church. She loved her friends in the Val Verda 1st and 5th Wards. At age 84 she was able to receive her Temple Endowment and loved serving there in her later years.
Edie and her high school friends started a lunch and bridge club that continued for 70 years. Keate and Edie were members of Oakridge Country Club where they spent many hours with friends golfing and socializing. She never tired of telling friends about her hole in 1 and having to buy drinks for everyone there. She was a beautiful ballet and tap dancer since her youth and was a member of the Dancing Granny's for years. She loved keeping active and would tell us all to "move it or lose it". She found immense joy and satisfaction sharing her love for the arts, museums, The Nutcracker Ballet, birds, butterflies, flowers and sunsets with her grandchildren. She loved nature and was a docent for many years at the Museum of Natural History. She was a member of the Garden Arts Club. She was totally committed to her family, she was such a fun mother and grandmother and loved supporting every activity and welcoming every friend. She was known for her homemade bread. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed wonderful clothes for her daughters and even their dolls.
She lived her life joyfully, with enthusiasm and grace. She was a very classy lady. Her love and positive attitude throughout her life will be always be cherished. Although dementia caused her light to fade in recent years, she brightened every life she touched.
Preceding Edie in death are her husband, Keate, her parents, her siblings Tom, Joe, Helen, Lee, and Ted. She is survived by her children, their spouses, their children and grandchildren, and her brother Reid Rowland.
