Edman (Ed) Eugene Sturgeon, age 89, died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 9, 2022, in Layton, Utah. Beloved husband of Elinor Mae (nee Albertson) for 68 years. Loving father of Susan Sturgeon (James Andrew) Langan, the late Eric Edman (Carolyn) Sturgeon, and Michael Jon (Alison) Sturgeon. Devoted grandpa of Kelly Crawford, Alaina (Aaron) Valentine, Teresa (Andy) Brough, Sydney (Dave) Brimley, Davis (Haley) Sturgeon, Eric Andrew Langan, and Abi (McKay) Bischoff. Proud great grandpa of Oliver Valentine, Benjamin Brough, and Ellie Brimley. Dear brother of Sharlene (Roy) Hogan and Fonda (Ron) Holtmyer. Fond uncle of the late Beth Johnson, Amy Bones, Ann Albertson, RJ Hogan, Dawn Hogan, Beth (Aaron) Anderson, Devin Holtmyer, and Darin (the late Andrea) Holtmyer.
Ed was born June 16, 1933, to Mary Vera Nahach Sturgeon and Issac Edman Sturgeon in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, where he participated in sports and ROTC. He received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He began a career of more than 30 years with the United States Food & Drug Administration, first as an inspector in Kansas City and later as supervisor of the Salt Lake City and Memphis regional offices. Prior to his FDA service, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad and in real estate sales. Ed loved the great outdoors: hunting and fishing with family and friends, boating, camping, and backpacking. He inherited a green thumb and spent many hours tending his abundant garden, especially in retirement in Western Colorado. He was proficient at grilling and made delicious chili, sauces, and soups. He was generous, good humored, and devoted to his family.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Russon Mortuary, 1941 N.
