Eileen Jensen

Eileen Hyer Jensen, 89, long time resident of Bear Lake, passed away September 16, 2013 in Bountiful, Utah, where she was living at the time of her death, from causes incident to age. She was under the care of Welcome Home Assisted Living Facility and Hospice of Utah.
Eileen was born on her father’s birthday, September 10, 1924 in Hyde Park, Utah to John Christian Hyer and Maude Petersen Hyer. She grew up in Lewiston, Utah where she attended grade school. She graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah and obtained a degree in nursing from Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Budge Memorial Hospital in Logan, Utah until her marriage and at Bear Lake Memorial for many years.
She married Marriner Jensen, March 21, 1946, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. The couple lived in Wells, Nevada until 1948, when they moved to Bear Lake. She and her husband had nine children, which they raised, together, on a Hereford Cattle ranch twelve miles south of Montpelier on Highway 30.
Eileen worked hard as a mother and rancher’s wife. When they first moved to the ranch they had no electricity or running water. She washed clothes on a board with water hauled from a near-by spring and cooked on a wood stove until they had electricity brought to their home and a well dug. She worked hard at the side of her husband feeding bulls, moving cows, reviving new born baby calves, moving sprinklers, feeding hay men and raising and canning a big garden each year until 2007, when they sold their ranch and moved to Idaho, Falls. She was a dedicated mother and loyal wife, a wonderful cook, an excellent seamstress, a master gardener, a 4-H leader, a member of the Republican Party, a great fisher woman and even learned how to operate a computer to keep her husband current on the price of gold.
She and her husband traveled frequently and lived in Canada and Mexico, where they gained many treasured friends and acquaintances from 1978 until 2010. She was the chief cook and taxi driver of their family owned business, Bear Lake Outfitters, for twenty years.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served diligently in many callings. She was a Stake and Ward Missionary and served a full-time mission with her husband in Hagensborg, British Columbia, Canada.
Eileen is survived by her nine children, Vicki (Bernard) Sparks of Dingle, Idaho; Sid (Joyce) Jensen of Idaho Falls, Mary Jo (Arnell) Snyder of Bountiful, Utah; RoZan Coleman of Salt Lake City, Utah; Barth Jensen of Anchorage, Alaska; Patrice McCutcheon of Afton, Wyoming; Clyde (Rachael) Jensen of Montpelier, Idaho; Lorie (David) Montierth of Laguna Niguel, Calif; and John (Diane)Jensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 35 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great- grandchildren; one brother, Garold Hyer of Odgen, Utah.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Claire Hyer; one sister, Karma Thompson.
Funeral services will begin at 12 noon, Saturday, September 21, at the Dingle LDS Chapel, 4197 Dingle Road in Dingle, Idaho. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:45 am prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Dingle Cemetery under the direction of Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, Bountiful, Utah.
