Elaine Fisher Allen

May 10, 1931 — December 29, 2024

Bountiful, UT

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Selma Elaine Fisher Allen, age 93, who peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father and was reunited with her eternal companion on December 29, 2024.

Elaine was born on May 10, 1931—Mother’s Day—on her family’s dairy farm in Oxford, Idaho, to Albert Lee and Selma Fisher. As the eighth of ten children, Elaine grew up during the great depression and learned the values of hard work, service, and faith. While her brothers helped with milking the cows, Elaine spent much of her time in the kitchen, the garden, and caring for a baby brother born when she was 11 years old.

Elaine’s early years were filled with music, sports, and creativity. She played the piano, learned to sew, and even played the snare drum in her high school band. It was during these years that she met Curtis Allen of Preston, Idaho, on a "blind" double date with another couple. A simple coin toss paired Curtis and Elaine—a moment that sparked a lifelong love. While Curtis served in Korea during the war, Elaine rekindled their friendship through letters. Upon his return, the two resumed their courtship and were sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Temple on March 17, 1952.

Elaine supported Curtis as he pursued a civil engineering education and career, leading to family adventures across the United States—from Idaho to Ohio, California to New Jersey, Michigan, and eventually back to Utah. With their four children in tow, Curtis and Elaine never worried about the future, knowing the welcoming arms of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints awaited them in every community.

Elaine served as Relief Society president in three wards and supported Curtis in his church callings, including as a bishop and high councilor. Together, they served as ushers on Temple Square and as service missionaries in the Church History Department. Elaine also devoted nearly a decade of service to the Bountiful Temple, a role she cherished deeply.

Elaine’s legacy is filled with cherished memories. Her home was a haven of warmth, often filled with the enticing aroma of her fabulous cooking and baked goods. Christmas was made magical with her hand-dipped chocolates, while hot scones with homemade jam and applesauce cookies topped with chocolate frosting delighted us year-round. Elaine’s hands were never idle—she created stunning crocheted afghans, patchwork quilts, and matching Christmas pajamas for her children when they were young. Her spirit brought joy and connection to every gathering, whether through competitive games of pinochle during family camping trips or spirited matches of ping-pong. She was a woman of quiet strength and boundless love, whose unwavering faith guided her life and inspired everyone who knew her.

Elaine is survived by her children Nancy Allen, Bountiful; Tracy (Lisea) Allen, Hooper (currently serving as missionaries in Iceland); Pam (Mitch) Hansen, West Jordan; and Ken (Sydney) Allen, North Salt Lake; thirteen grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jim (Leah) Fisher, and sister-in-law ValDean Fisher. She is preceded in death by her husband Curtis, her parents, her infant son Lawrence, her brothers (Albert, Robert, Allen, Elden, Leon, Claire, and Doug Fisher), her sister LaRue Burrup Johnson, and an infant great-grandson James Yost.

In her final years, Elaine resided at Creekside Assisted Living, with her last weeks spent in Memory Care. As a family, we express our deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and staff at Creekside and A-Plus Hospice. Their unwavering love and service brought immeasurable comfort to Elaine and our family.
