Elaine Hatch

Elaine F. Hatch died August 8, 2005. Born August 1, 1918 in Bountiful, Davis County, Utah, to Spencer and Edith Fearnley Hatch, and direct descendant of Governor William Bradford and Elder William Brewster of Mayflower fame. Attended Salt Lake City and Davis County public schools, graduating from Davis High School in 1935 where she was awarded an Octagon for school activities in Reporting and Drama. Elected Junior Representative of Associated Girl Students; appointed Feature Editor of the Davis Dart; Associate Official Reporter for the school; active in Glee Club, Pro Schola, Opera and Dramatics, portraying the ingenue lead of Prudence in the school play, ?Growing Pains.? Attended LDS Business College where she was elected Queen of the Valentine?s Day Ball; served as legal secretary to Lynn S. Richards, Esq. of the law firm of Moyle, Richard & McKay and at Special Session of Utah State Legislature 1937 which passed enabling legislation for social security and unemployment insurance. In 1938 and 1939 chosen First Attendant to the Queen of Utah Covered Wagon Days. From 1941 during World War II to 1950 served as personal secretary to U.S. Senator Elbert D. Thomas D-Utah in Washington, D.C. and as Research Analyst on U.S. Committee on Labor & Public Welfare, accompanying Senator to ILO Conference in Philadelphia; instrumental in issuance of Utah centennial stamp. During this period also attended American University and George Washington University where she portrayed Regan in ?King Lear? during its Shakespearian Festival. From 1950 to 1960 served on staff of Psychological Strategy Board and Operations Coordinating Board, National Security Council in Executive Offices of the President where she initiated and promoted Government?s participation in Trade Fairs and Cultural Exchanges around the world, which culminated in permanent legislation International Cultural Exchanges and Trade Fairs Act. P.L. 860 signed by President Eisenhower August 1, 1956. During 1960 – 1968 lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she attended University of Hawaii while working for Harold T. Kay, Esq., as well as the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel, The Dillingham Corporation, International Telephone & Telegraph Corporation and the Corporation Counsel?s Office of the City and County of Honolulu. In 1961 aboard the S.S. Himalaya sailed from Honolulu to Yokohama thence via the periphery of Asia to London, with a month?s tour of Europe, flying back to New York, Utah and Honolulu. In 1968 returned to San Francisco where she served with the U.S. General Services Administration, Credit & Finance Branch, as Financial Assistant. In 1980 after thirty years service received Loyal Service Award, and two special awards for outstanding service, retired to her apartment in Golden Gateway Center to write her memoirs, study Chinese Brush Painting, as well as illustrating and publishing her ?Legend of the Easter Eggs.? A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she has served as speech instructor in the Mutual Improvement Association; teacher in Junior Sunday School, Washington, D.C. Ward; attended the San Francisco Ward in San Francisco. Active in Genealogy Research; has written biographical sketch of her Grandfather Orin Perry Hatch as well as assisting with a biography of her Great Grandfather Orin Hatch who served with Mormon Battalion in United States Army during Mexican War 1846 – 47 and who participated in discovery of gold at Sutter?s Fort in January 1848. Active with Commonwealth Club of California, Society of the Mayflower Descendants; Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Alpha Iota. Survivors include her brothers and sisters: Lily Lieberman, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. James Gladys Mary Van Camp, Diamond Bar, California; Spencer F. Hatch, Bountiful, Utah; Roy F. Hatch, Manti, Utah; Clarence F. Hatch, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Grant Barbara Furse, Salt Lake City, Utah; Howard F. Hatch, Joseph, Utah; Dell F. Hatch, Cedar City, Utah; and Rulon F.
