Elfriede F. Kuehne was born in Hamburg, Germany on February 28th, 1912. She was the oldest of eight children born to Richard and Grete Schloss Frank. She died peacefully on the 8th of August, 2008 at the age of 96. Elfriede emigrated to America in August 1929 with her future husband, Erich W. Kuehne — just in time for the Great Depression. She married Erich in December 1929 in West New York, New Jersey. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1940. Elfriede was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life, she served faithfully in many capacities. She especially loved working with her sisters in Relief Society and served as president, counselor, and secretary. She devoted many years to genealogical research and worked in the genealogical extraction program where she was particularly valuable as an expert in old German script. She is survived by children Lillian John Deters, Wayne Ilse, Raymond Genie, Lynn Margit, Ron Christine, Sharon Louie Pati, 28 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren, her brother Erwin Frank, and sister-in-law Annemarie Marie Haase Frank. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and six siblings. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 at 12:00 noon at the Edison Ward in the Pioneer Stake Center, 1401 West 700 South, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. at the church prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Beehive Homes in Centerville for their kindness and compassion in taking care of Mom’s needs while she resided there.
