Eli Stanford LeCheminant

July 2, 1932 — July 18, 2019

Eli Stanford LeCheminant quietly passed away on July 18, 2019 at the age of 87 years old. Stan was born on July 2, 1932 in Salt Lake City to Eli Davis and Jeane Campbell LeCheminant. Growing up in downtown SLC, Stan enjoyed all the things a young boy would; riding his bike down Wall Street, playing marbles, and shooting his slingshot. He adored his older brother, Dale, and younger sister, Linda.

Stan married his West High School eternal sweetheart, Coralee Andersen, on June 8, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was immediately sent to Fort Ord for basic training in California for two years. Once reunited, Stan and Coralee were blessed with four daughters and one son. Stan and Coralee’s posterity includes 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. His greatest joy has always been their children and grandchildren. He loved babies, their fingers, their toes, and kissing their cheeks.

Stan lived a life full of family and good friends. He could develop a friendship with anyone he met and enjoyed talking to strangers. He did not care what others thought of him and he did not hesitate to express his opinion.  He followed in his father’s footsteps and owned the LeCheminant Appraisal Service in SLC for over 45 years. He loved this career, as it gave him a chance to meet new people every day.

Stan enjoyed staying in good health. The Deseret Gym was truly his second home. Before welcoming a new son-in-law into the family, he would treat them to a day at the DG to determine their “worthiness” for his daughter. He was very athletic and there was not a sport that he could not master. He loved teaching the grandkids a new sport and they would occasionally ride their bikes with him to and from the gym. Some of his proudest accomplishments were running the Boston marathon at age 50 and being inducted into the Utah Handball Association Hall of Fame. Many trophies and plaques bore his name before the Deseret Gym finally closed in 1997.

Stan had season Utah Jazz tickets for years and spent countless hours cheering on his favorite team. He loved a good party and had a costume for every holiday. Whether he was dressed as Phantom of the Opera or Elvis Santa Claus, he was having a great time. His favorite holiday was the 4th of July and he routinely hosted BBQs in City Creek canyon. He had very simple tastes and simple needs.  A hamburger, followed by vanilla ice cream with a dab of chocolate syrup, was his favorite meal.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ was strong and solid. He served many callings, from Cub Scout Master to Bishop. Stan was considered an incredibly generous and compassionate Bishop. He helped many families during his selfless service, both spiritually and financially.  He also loved his time with the youth of the Church, especially the camping and river trips.

In 1992, his heart was broken when Coralee died suddenly. We thought he would not recover from the loss of his sweetheart. However, he was blessed to find love a second time and married Brenda Yorgason on August 18, 1995. Together, Stan and Brenda traveled the world and created irreplaceable memories. They lived an active and fun life together for over 20 years, before Brenda’s premature death in 2016 from ALS. Stan has experienced his share of sadness throughout his life, but he was always an optimist. He continued smiling and enjoying time with family and friends.

Stan is preceded in death by his first wife Coralee, second wife Brenda, brother Dale, and granddaughter Emily Bingham. He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Lisa (Robert) Gardner, Wendy (Guy) Weisenburger, Mark (Tammy), Amy (Evan) Bingham, and Andrea (Joel) Reeder, his 21 grandchildren and spouses, 38 great-grandchildren, and sister, Linda LeCheminant.

Stan’s family would like to thank those who have cared for our dad at the Farmington Country Care Assisted Living home. We are also appreciative of the nurses with Symbii Hospice. They have served Dad tirelessly, while maintaining his dignity and comfort.

In tribute to our dad, we invite you to offer a smile and a “Hello” to a stranger.

We love you and will miss you so much, Dad.  “How sweet it is!”
