Elinor Mae Sturgeon (nee Albertson), age 89, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 30, 2024, in Layton, Utah. Elinor was born on January 22, 1935 to Theodore and Mary Hoeg Albertson in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, where she studied commercial education, was part of the ROTC Military Ball Court and modeled for the Council Bluffs Nonpareil newspaper. She worked as a secretary for a real estate company in Council Bluffs.
On April 15, 1954, Elinor became the beloved wife of the late Edman Eugene Sturgeon. Loving mother of Susan (James Andrew) Langan, the late Eric (Carolyn) Sturgeon and Michael (Alison) Sturgeon. Proud grandma of Kelly Crawford, Alaina (Aaron) Valentine, Teresa (Andy) Brough, Sydney (Dave) Brimley, Davis (Haley) Sturgeon, Eric Andrew Langan and Abi (McKay) Bischoff. Grateful great grandma to Oliver Valentine, Benjamin Brough, Ellie Brimley, Spencer Brough and Jack Sturgeon. Preceded in death by devoted siblings Gretchen (late Robert) Johnson, Howard (late Marian) Albertson and a first born, infant brother, Roger Paul. Fond aunt of the late Beth Johnson, Amy Johnson Bones, Ann Albertson, RJ Hogan, Dawn Hogan, Beth (Aaron) Anderson, Devin Holtmyer, and Darin (late Andrea) Holtmyer.
Elinor brought a loving and artistic touch to everything she did. She was a painter on canvas and other surfaces, including flower gardens in Iowa, Kansas, Tennessee, Utah and Colorado. She cultivated a beautiful home for her husband, children and various animals, including Baron, Elsie and Emily. With Edman, she shared a love of travel and the outdoors, though her map reading was occasionally shaky. She seized the day and recorded it as well, keeping a daily journal for most of her adult life. Her warm smile and good nature lifted the spirits of friends and family.
The family is especially grateful for the loving caregivers and medical staff at Fairfield Village of Layton, Inspirations Hospice and Home Health and AMG Senior Medical Group.
