Heaven has gained an angel and a beloved daughter of God. Ellen Rothwell Anderson, 97, peacefully returned home to the arms of our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ on Friday, February 22, 2019. She is survived by daughters Shari Milner, Bolinas CA; Tami Anderson, Salt Lake City, UT; Diane Hoffman, Moab, UT, and son-in-law Ron Bybee, Las Cruces, NM; 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 soon to be 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey C. Anderson, her daughter Ricki A. Bybee, granddaughter Hanna Hoffman, son-in-law Ken D. Hoffman, her parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Ellen was born March 16, 1921 in Moore, ID to James Andrew and Bertha Weight Rothwell. She graduated from Springville High School in Springville, UT and attended Brigham Young Academy in Provo,UT. During World War II, she met the love of her life, Dewey C Anderson, at Remington Arms in Salt Lake City where he was making munitions and she was inspecting them.They married June 12, 1943 in Missoula, MT where he was stationed for basic training in the Army Air Corps.
Ellen adored her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, Grammy, Grammy Grape, G.G., Grammy-Grammy, sister, aunt, and friend. She touched the lives of all who knew her. She blessed many with her impeccable sewing skills, generously providing many with baby blessing dresses, wedding attire, comfort blankets, quilts and so much more. She stood out in her ability to create the latest fashions without patterns and her work was flawless. She had a unique eye for repurposing items and making them more beautiful than ever, whether it was flour sacks to dresses, parachute silk to baby clothes, WWII sheepskin flight pants to Teddy Bears, or hundreds of other unique creations. Equally endearing was her ability to make all within her reach feel special and loved. She was admired by many and an example to all.
Ellen's love for her Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel was apparent in her steadfast faith and selfless service. As a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she fulfilled numerous church callings, volunteered in her community, and lead by example.
Visitations will be Friday, March 1, 2019, 6-8 pm and Saturday March 2, 2019, 10:30-11:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave., Salt Lake City, UT., 84108.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019, 12:00 pm, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave Salt Lake City, UT., 84108. Her interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn, Salt Lake City, UT. Funeral services handled by Russon Mortuary Salt Lake.
