Ellen Gertsch Lunt, 65 years of age, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 30, 2018. Ellen was born August 22, 1952, to Ray and Maeda Gertsch of Midway, Utah. She was honored to be of Swiss ancestry. Ellen married Robert Lunt and they were the parents of Christopher Lunt.
Ellen received her Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University and a Master’s of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University. She worked for the Church in Physical Facilities for several years and was personnel manager over all of California and Hawaii. After she left working for the LDS Church, they had to hire two people to replace her.
Ellen served an LDS mission in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Throughout the years she was involved in various callings in the LDS church. Most recently she worked as an ordinance worker at the Bountiful temple, was a hostess at the Relief Society Building on Temple Square, a Family History Consultant and a Self-reliance facilitator.
Ellen was passionate about serving others and her family. Her commitment to service was never more evident than in her devotion to Scouting. She helped numerous young men achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. She honorably earned the Silver Beaver Award in scouting at the national level and the District Award of Merit at the local level. She volunteered for numerous things including hospice, political affairs, and the Davis County Women’s Committee.
Ellen devoted her life to be an exceptional mother. She was beloved of her family because she was so supportive of every family member and family activities. She was especially proud of her son, Christopher. She recognized in him from a young age his potential and was committed to supporting him in various opportunities.
She is survived by Robert Lunt, her son Christopher Lunt, three stepchildren and six of her seven siblings. Her stepchildren are Stephen Lunt of West Haven, Utah; Daniel Lunt of Riverton, Utah and Laura Lunt of Kearns, Utah. Her living siblings are Bonnie Lund and Lynda Call of Murray, Utah; Lyle Gertsch and Laren Gertsch of Midway, Utah; Carolyn Bratt of St Anthony, Idaho; and LaNae Gertsch of Bountiful, Utah. She was proceeded in death by her younger brother, Dr. Ralph Gertsch.
The viewing will be held between 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main St., Bountiful, UT 84010. An additional viewing will also be held before the funeral services on Saturday, April 7, at the Farmington Stake Center located at 695 South 200 East, Farmington, Utah 84025. The Saturday, viewing will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. The Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Midway, Utah Cemetery, 600 West 500 South, Midway, UT 84049. The family requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made to charity, preferably for the Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
