Elline Craig

November 5, 1920 — November 26, 2014

Elline Midgley Craig, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Wednesday November 26th, 2014. Elline was born November 5, 1920 and was raised in Salt Lake City. She was the third of four children born to Rushby Carl and Mary Alice Shaw Midgley.
Elline graduated from East High School in 1936, and continued her education at the University of Utah where she earned a bachelors degree in Home Economics in 1941. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Elline met her sweetheart, Glen Craig, at a fraternity dance. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 6, 1941. In 1942 Glen was drafted into the US Army. For the following 4 years, they were separated off and on as he fulfilled his military service in World War II.
Glen and Elline built a home in Bountiful in 1946 where they raised their four children and were blessed with a long and happy life together. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary only months before Glen’s passing in 2012.
Elline was a faithful member of the LDS church, and spent most of her adult life serving in callings in the Relief Society. She was known for her generosity with her time and talents. Elline knitted hundreds of baby blankets, booties, and other handmade gifts for others. She was a very talented quilter, knitter, and seamstress and was rarely seen without some project in her hands. She won many awards at quilt shows and was known for her beautiful applique work and her exquisite hand quilting. Elline and Glen were also avid gardeners and maintained a beautiful yard into their ’90s.
In her family she was often known as Nene (Ne-Ne), a nickname that she was given by her siblings when she was a young child. To her grandchildren she is known as Grandma Nene.
As a family, we are saddened to be separated from our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. But we are happy for her to be reunited with Glen-whom she has missed so much for these past few years.
Elline is survived by her children: Caroline Craig of Olympia, Washington, Allan Craig (Terry), Marianne Michaels (Roger) of Mapleton, Rushby Craig (Cay) of Centerville, 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her brother Louis Midgley of Provo. She was preceded in death by her brother Rushby Midgley Jr., and her sister Jeanne Huber.
A viewing will be held Monday December 1, from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main St. in Bountiful. Services in memory of Elline will be held on Tuesday, December 2, at the Bountiful Utah North Stake Center (1540 N. 400 E., Bountiful, Utah). A gathering will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 AM for friends and family, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Dedication of the grave and interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery (2224 South 200 West) immediately after the service.
