"A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best" –
Mom's just resting 'til we all meet again.
Our sweet mother has lived a long and beautiful life. She was born in Evanston, Wyoming to Myrtle Eastman Larson and Gustav Larson. She was the middle child of seven children, growing up with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. After graduating from Evanston High School, class of 1936, she entered Holy Cross School of Nursing and graduated as an RN in 1941.
In 1943, she rode the train to Fresno, California and eloped with her tall, handsome, Army Air Corps pilot, Loyal Wayne Fry. For the next 33 years she followed him around the world as an Air Force wife, bearing five children along the way. After moving back to Bountiful, Elma returned to nursing at the University of Utah Hospital and Lakeview Hospital.
Elma was a faithful member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Bountiful 4th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a very avid Utah Jazz fan! In 2014, she was named Bountiful City's Mother of the Year and with her humorous wit remarked she "could cross that off her bucket list!" She loved playing cards, doing puzzles, fishing, crocheting, and painting. Her most favorite thing was just being around her family, no matter what they were doing. Elma will be most remembered for her selfless love, genuine kindness and concern for others.
Elma is survived by her five children, Vicky Lynn (Serge) DelHoyo, Douglas Wayne Fry, Kristine (Terry) Rix, Brian Max Fry, Michele (Tony) Smith, 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, LynnEl Gay Larson and Joan Kay Larson (Ted) Poole.
