With heartfelt gratitude for her lovely life, we honor the passing of Elma Lois Buttars Walker on March 27, 2024. She was born on July 27, 1930, in the small farming community of Cedarville, ID during the Great Depression. Those early years of childhood and youth raised on a farm shaped Elma’s core values during her life, and later became the strength of heritage from which she drew throughout her marriage and while raising her large family.
Elma was married to Sanford Smith Walker in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they enjoyed 70 years and were dedicated parents before his passing in 2021. She graduated from BYU in Nutrition and Medical Dietetics, allowing her the knowledge and intuitive creativity to prepare wonderful meals for her family always, while readily sharing gifts as the essence of a creative and organized homemaker on every level. She was a truly accomplished seamstress, enjoyed singing and dancing, working tirelessly on home improvement projects, and rocking babies in rockers.
Elma served in numerous church callings, including full-time mission leader in Brazil with her husband, where she came to adore both their beloved missionaries and the Brazilian people.
Elma was consistently the picture of dignity and femininity and loved the beauties of the earth. She and Sandy were well-traveled and enjoyed making friends along their way. She was a lovely wife, deeply devoted mother of 7, grandmother of 29, great-grandmother of many, and a beloved friend. Her example of devotion to her beliefs and abiding testimony of our Savior, which she was unafraid to share, will continue to guide our lives.
