Leon was born on May 9, 1936 in Southsolon, Ohio to Elmer Levi and Tennie Hicks Zoltz. He lived in Ohio through his school years and early twenties.
Leon married Connie Sue Riffle of Springfield, Ohio and together they had three sons: Chris, Paul and Tim. During their 12 years of marriage they lived aboard in Morocco, England, Guam, as well as Kansas, Montana and Arizona. Leon and Connie later divorced and Leon moved to Utah to work at Hill Air Force Base.
Leon’s life revolved around his commitment and dedication to the military. He joined the U.S. Air Force after High School where he became a Sargeant, served in the Vietnam War and later retired in 1978. During his time in service he received several decorations, medals, badges and combinations. He was heavily involved in the VFW Auxiliary 8307 where he served as the Post Commander and dedicated countless hours of service to many projects. He also loved being a Shriner’s Clown and participating in local parades and events.
After retirement from the U.S. Air Force he continued work at Hill Air Force Base where he worked as a civilian in Logistics. During this time he also worked as a counselor helping troubled teens at the Clearfield Utah Job Corp. He was involved in the Junior ROTC programs throughout Utah by participating in award ceremonies and acquisition of uniforms.
He leaves behind three sons: Chris, Paul and Tim, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, his brother Fred and his sweetheart Saralyn. He will be greatly missed by everyone!
