Elna Lucy Floisand Luker was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She passed peacefully in her home on June 6, 2021 at the age of 94. Elna was born in Bergen, Norway on January 14, 1927. She was the second of seven children born to Ivar Martin Floisand and Agnes Marie Rasmussen.
Early in her life she mastered the skills of knitting, sewing, crocheting and needlework, which she used to create beautiful sweaters, baby clothing, doll outfits, and other handiwork. She used her talents while working for Salt Lake Knit and later for Kay’s Dry Cleaners. She continued to knit until a few days before her passing.
As a teenager in Norway, Elna and her family lived through World War II. After the war ended, the family was able to immigrate to America, a place they grew to love as much as their homeland. She married Howard Luker in the Salt Lake Temple on February 20, 1953, and together they had 5 children.
Most of Elna’s adult life was spent as a homemaker and doing genealogical research. She had a passion for this work and developed skills that made her an exceptional researcher. Some of the history she compiled has been published in books that are kept in the Norwegian archives. About the time Howard retired, she was hired for her dream job working in the Genealogical Library. She was recognized for the exceptional work she did for them. Elna often expressed wonder at the marvelous changes in the world during her lifetime and the ability to search records from her own home via the computer.
Mother missed Howard very much, so we know she was delighted when they were recently reunited. We are grateful for her remarkable life, her loving and giving nature, and unfaltering faith.
Elna is survived by her five children John Luker (Trudy), Ann Newbold (Rodger), Elsie Barney (Scott), Karie Mundee (Mike), Evelyn Morton, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 siblings, her husband, Howard and son in law, Jeff Morton
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 10th at 11:30 a.m. with a viewing from 10:15 to 11:15 at Stone Creek Ward 1476 No. 300 West, Bountiful, UT. A visitation will be held from 6:00 -8:00 pm on Wednesday evening, June 9th at Russon Mortuary, 295 No. Main Street, Bountiful, UT. Interment to follow at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
We express deepest gratitude to Elevation hospice care and, especially, Kristy and Emilee for the loving care they gave to Elna over the last several years.
