Else Bertha Corelli Voorhees

In Tribute to our sweet, tender Mom,
Just a Spring ago from when your sweetheart passed is all you had to wait to be with him again; You’re likely giving each other a huge embrace and specking loving words in each other’s ears!
We four children, and our spouses, Kim & Linda Voorhees, Sue & Rock Winegar, Steven & Dot Voorhees, Jerry Voorhees & Christina Kurcera, and our families are saddened to be left behind without our strong, secure cornerstone that our Mom has been for us, we’ll miss her cute senses of humor, her sincere love for each one of us, the list is endless….
Mom we know Dad will again take great care of you as he always did. You both have been great examples of how to be wonderful spouses for each other, excellent parents, grand & great grandparents.
Our Mom was adored by not only our family, but everyone that met her, neighbors, friends, co-workers, patients, knitting group, book group, Hospice workers, All the Aids at Whisper Cove, and their staff. we thank you all for love and caring for both Mom and Dad.
Else was born of Goodly parents, Einar Corelli and Erna Moller Corelli, In the beautiful country of Denmark which is filled with wonderful culture and traditions. Mom loved her dad’s concerts he played in professionally, her mother’s cooking, and especially the delicious Cookies. (Mom made them for us too!)
As an older teen Mom and her friends would travel to other countries, taking their bikes putting them from buses to trains and stay in hostels. Mom told us she went to the Netherlands, while unbeknownst to either of our parents, she was there at the same time Dad was serving a religious mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; she likely rode on many streets that Dad had been tracking on and could have rode right by him?!!

Mom got a job as a Nanny in England and took care of 4 children. Mom knew very little English, so the 10-year-old decided he would teach her.
I see God’s hand in that for the future Mom would be stepping into that would change her life for good!
While Mom was Nanning , back home Uncle Olaf Miller who much earlier immigrated to Utah, returned to Denmark on a mission to teach his extended family the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Mormor & Morfar and the 3 children at home listen to the lessons and accepted his challenge to be baptized.
Mom often thought the religious faith they were following didn’t seem complete.
On her return Mom listened, studied, and prayed, she came to her own understanding and gained her own testimony that this is the fullness of the Gospel she had been hoping for. She accepted the invitation to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which she has served in and has had faith in Christ all her life.
Mom attended the University of Nursing school in Denmark, after graduation She and Aunt Ena immigrated to their new home to be with their family who had already come to Utah.
Mom arrived in Utah in 1955, and very soon after her family was invited to a Scandinavian yearly celebration in Ephraim, Ut. They put on a fun and festive party, with lots of traditional dishes.
Our Dad lived right nearby in Manti, and his best buddy was looking out for him and made a phone call saying, “Hey Doug there’s some cute gals over at this social, you should come meet them,” dad declined, said he could manage his only dates….. He’s friend call a bit later trying one more time saying, “Doug they’re serving Strudel!
Just a year later Douglas Roland Voorhees and Else Berta Corelli were sealed on June 1st, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS temple for time and all Eternity.

If you ask us their kids we’d say we have the best parents.
When we were little Mom would sing and read to us at bedtime, our favorite thing was when she would tuck us in, and poof the feather pillows we had around our heads and kiss us goodnight.
Although, we didn’t like the stinky cheese, sardines and liverwurst in the fridge,
but her Aebleskiver’s she made at Christmas were light, fluffy and delicious!
Mom and Dad loved camping, so most of our vacations we pulled our trailer, packed up and set out for fun adventures.
Mom spent 40 + years as a nurse, she was the nurse for 2 of her children while they were having her grand babies at Lakeview Hospital, retiring at the age of 70. Our Dad was 80 when he retired, we had very hard-working parents.
Our Mom was the knitting and crocheting Queen! She loved to make sweaters the most, she made lap blankets for as many grandchildren’s weddings until she could no longer see well enough to crochet anymore.
Mom taught us the best things in life, was to love one another, always forgive, be good and do good, be kind, be responsible, be thoughtful, respectful, give of yourself, be willing to serve, love our Lord and Savior, these and many more; Mom lived her life just like she taught.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Bountiful Ward Chapel, 2505 South Davis Blvd., Bountiful, where a viewing will be held from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery. Services will be streamed live on Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on Else’s obituary at www.russonmortuary.com.
