Elsie Quinney Beard passed away Sunday, November 14, from complications of a broken leg, joining her beloved husband Russell Beard. She was 89 years old and had lived a full and happy life. She was born and raised in Yorkshire England, the only daughter of Joseph Thomas and Elsie May Quinney. She graduated from Bingley College there at a time when that was unusual for working class women to do so. She then taught school in England during the war and later immigrated to Utah where she also graduated from BYU. While she was there she re-met Russell Beard, whom she had met in England years before, and married him in the Salt Lake Temple in 1948. They subsequently had six children, the first of whom died as a baby. She taught school for many years and was a very successful teacher, receiving and Outstanding Teacher award from KSL. She loved her family, which was central to her life, and was a loving mother, grandmother, surrogate mother to many others, including refugees from Vietnam. She was always active in church callings and was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and went on a mission to Georgia with Russell. She had been a temple worker and a councilor in the British Mission Youth program. She is survived by her children, Lynn (Renee), Rick (Shauna), Lisa Wegener (Bill), Mark (Jim), and Alan (Brenda), 21 grand and great grandchildren, as well as Sy Pham, her adopted son. A viewing will be held Thursday evening at her son, Lynn Beards residence at 295W 750N Willard, Utah from 7-9 pm and the funeral will be held Friday, November 19th at the Val Verda Stake Center on 500W and 2600S Bountiful at 11:00 am, and will be preceeded by a viewing there from 9:30 to 10:45 am. The interment will be at the Bountiful Cemetery. The family would like to thank her aides, Tiffany and Anita for the loving care they gave heart the end of her life. They would also like to thank all the friends who cared for her so much, both in Bountiful and in Willard, and especially Carol and Willard Malmstrom, who were like family to her. Flowers may be sent to the Russon Bro. Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful or to Lynn Beards residence.
