Elvon Gee Jackson, M.D.

Elvon Gee Jackson, M.D., 90, passed away June 18, 2004 at his home in Salt Lake City of causes incident to age.

Born December 16, 1913 in Provo, Utah to Elvon Leo Jackson and Adelia May Gee. He spent what he described as ?an idyllic? boyhood in Provo. He married Mary Ellen Taylor July 14, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. She is his sweetheart and wife of over 60 years.

He was always an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a mission to Great Britain 1934-36. He was an instructor in many church classes and quorums and cherished his calling as a guide on Temple Square. Later in life he and Mary Ellen served a mission to the local Tai and Laotian Branch.

Elvon graduated from BYU in 1939 and attended medical school at University of Utah and George Washington University, receiving his M.D. degree in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in France and Germany from 1944-46.

He was a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and was president of the Salt Lake Surgical Society. He was an active member of the LDS Hospital staff and was on the Clinical Medical faculty of the University of Utah from 1950 to 1986, when he retired.

He and Mary Ellen traveled to many places in the world. He was always interested in cultures and ideas of the world. He loved literature and to memorize and recite poetry. He marveled in flowers and the great beauties of this earth and God?s creations. He was always supportive and ?relished? in the various activities of his children and grandchildren, who were the joy of his life and have brought him great happiness.

Survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; his children, Steven Pat, Richard Marianne, Robert Sue, Nancy Corey Miller, Scott Ruthanne, Susie Dave Groesbeck, John Stacey, Alan Steffeny; 45 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren 5 more expected within 4 months; siblings, Vera Millet, Norma Carpenter, and George Gee. Preceded in death by his infant brother John Morrel, sister Theda May Brockbank, infant son Elvon Taylor, and great-grandson Chase Elggren.

Funeral services will be held at the Foothill 6th Ward Chapel, 1794 S. Texas Street 2380 E. On Tuesday, June 22 at 12:00 noon. There will be a viewing Monday evening, June 21st at the Chapel from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Eastlawn Memorial Cemetery, Provo, Utah.
