Elwood McMullin Gurney

November 18, 1938 — December 17, 2016

Elwood Gurney, our dear husband, father and grandfather finished his work on this earth and went home to his Heavenly Father Saturday December 17, 2016.  Elwood passed away peacefully surrounded by family and his sweetheart, Marlyse.

Elwood M. Gurney was born November 18, 1938 in Lethbridge, Alberta Canada.  He was the fourth of seven children born to Emery H. Gurney and Minerva Lucile McMullin.  Woody was a happy, pleasant boy who learned at a young age how to work hard and help others. He graduated high school and served an LDS mission to the Central States. He graduated from BYU with a bachelor of science and while living in Provo he met his sweet wife, Marlyse Bonny, on a blind date. They fell in love and he proposed on Christmas Day. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 8, 1970. Woody and Marlyse have been dedicated to each other for 46 years and found great joy in raising their four children and ten grandchildren.

Woody loved working with his hands becoming proficient in fixing and repairing almost anything. He worked hard to provide well for his family. He always stayed busy working his engraving and small engine repair business, fixing sprinklers in his neighborhood or snow blowing his neighbor’s driveways.

No work was more important to him than his family and faith. His greatest desire was to pass on to his family a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ and a love of the gospel. Although he served in many church callings, his greatest joy was serving alongside his wife as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple.

Woody loved nature and enjoyed walking almost daily the Farmington Trail, camping with his family and hiking to his favorite lake. He loved dancing with his wife in public or just in the kitchen.  He has been a wonderful example of courage, patience, quiet strength, faith and selfless service. He was well respected and loved by all those who knew him simply as “Woody”.

He is survived by his wife Marlyse, children Tracee Johnson (Chris), Jared Gurney (Alesha), Tara Croft (Marc), Tiffanee and grandchildren, Corbin, Alia, Tayah, Ammon, Amara, Brooklyn, Isaac, Kael, Christopher, and Erykah.

Friends and family may attend a viewing at Russon Brothers Mortuary on Wednesday, December, 21, from 7-8:30 PM located at 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, UT.  Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon December 22, 2016, at the Davis Creek LDS Chapel located at 825 South 50 East, Farmington, UT and will be preceded by a viewing from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the church.  Interment will be at the Farmington City Cemetery.
