Our magnificent mother, grandmother, aunt, mentor and friend, Beth Weaver Richards, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2014 surrounded by her family who adored her. Her one hundred year legacy of unconditional love left all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her forever changed.
Beth was born in Raymond, Alberta Canada, on March 8, 1914, the fourth daughter of George Albert Evans and Emily Suzannah West. Beth adored growing up with her four sisters. They sang and danced, performed plays and loved reading books, just like the sisters in the classic novel, Little Women. Beth was raised in Layton, Utah where she attended Davis High School and graduated from the University of Utah in Elementary Education and from the LDS Business College. On February 7, 1940, Beth married William D. Weaver. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Beth and Bill made their home in Clearfield, Utah where they raised their four children. She worked at Auerbachs department store in Salt Lake City for eight years. She was then employed at Hill Air Force Base for twenty five years.
Following thirty-eight years of marriage, Bill passed away unexpectedly. With the subsequent loss of her sister, Virginia Richards, Beth and her brother-in-law, Joseph W. Richards, were married on January 1, 1980. This served to create an even deeper bond between the two families. Beth and Joe made their home in the Zion Summit Condominium Complex in Salt Lake City. Joe died six years after their marriage, but Beth remained there for the next thirty-four years among cherished friends and neighbors. During the last nine months of her life, Beth was a resident of the Legacy Assisted Living Center in Bountiful.
Beth was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in many positions, including: Young Womens President, Chorister, Choir Director and an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Beth was also an extremely dedicated Visiting Teacher, a tangible demonstration of her genuine love for others.
Beth had the ability to make everyone feel loved and comfortable and had a completely non-judgmental character. She was always bright and positive and when asked how she was, Beth was fond of proclaiming, Beautiful, Glamorous and Exciting! And she was! Her generosity was one of her most notable characteristics and she gave generously to church funds and many charities. She was extremely kind and forgiving and never held a grudge. This Christ like example stands as a monument of strength and encouragement for all who knew and loved her, especially her children and grandchildren.
Beth is survived by her son, Bert Weaver (Janie, later divorced) Roy Utah; (daughter-in-law) Eloise Weaver; (son) Ren Weaver (Julie) Vancouver, Washington; (daughter) Julie Murdock (Blake) Bountiful, Utah, currently serving as mission presidents in the Colorado Denver South Mission; (step-daughter) Penny Richards, Salt Lake City; (step son-in-law) Greg Bown (Margaret), Riverton. She was the grandmother of thirty-one grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Beth was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters, Beatrice Hartman, Erma Griffin, Eileen Smith, and Virginia Richards. Also preceded in death by her husbands William D. Weaver and Joseph W. Richards, her son David C. Weaver II, and her step daughter, JoAnne Bown.
