Emma Jean McKean

April 20, 1929 – December 13, 2016 Emma Jean Nessen McKean, age 87, passed away peacefully on the evening of December 13, 2016. She was born April 20, 1929, in Centerville, Utah, the daughter of Alvin Nephi Nessen and Maud Zina Price.  She grew up among the foothills of Centerville where she loved taking younger siblings for walks.  She graduated from Davis High and shortly thereafter married her sweetheart, David Sargent McKean in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 1947.  They made their home on the McKean property in West Bountiful and lived next to Dave’s parents. 

Jean was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various Primary callings, including Primary President and Relief Society President.  She served as a temple worker for 20 years at the Salt Lake Temple. Her life has been based on caring for and serving others in any capacity she could.

Jean is survived by her children: Terri (Ken) Wilks, David (Kara), Kim (Debbie), Jeffry (Rachel), Erin Johnson, 18 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, who passed away 28 years ago on December 18, 1988.  Jean was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings; brothers, Wendell, Kenneth, Reed, Robert, Russell; and sister, Lola Nessen Hyde.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Bountiful 3rd Ward Building (840 N. 800 W.) in West Bountiful.  Friends may visit on Tuesday evening, December 20, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 N. Main in Bountiful, Utah, and from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m at the church, prior to the service.
