Our dear husband, dad and granddad left peacefully early Thursday morning, March 1, 2007 in his home surrounded by his family. Eric Duncan Hogan was 89 years old. Eric had great love for his family and friends and was loved by all who knew him. He was a charming, witty, caring man who left the world a better place for his having lived here. Born July 29, 1917 in Abraham, Utah, he was the youngest of eight children born to Donald and Margaret Ann Duncan Hogan. Eric married Joy Randall on May 3, 1941. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple while he was on leave from the Air Force during World War II. He and his sweetheart have been married 65 years and have two children, nine grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. Eric and his good friend Derrell Tingey owned a successful construction company, Hogan and Tingey Construction, in Centerville Utah. Over 40 years their efforts are still evident in the numerous homes, schools and commercial projects throughout Utah. The highlight of his career was to participate in the construction of the Provo, LDS temple. Eric became the President of Associated General Contractors where through his talents and experience, bettered the construction profession in the state. Eric loved traveling, golfing, woodworking, and delighting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with his harmonica playing. He and Joy loved to spend time at their home in St. George enjoying the red cliff mountain in their backyard. Eric used his talents and unconditional love to bless the lives of others. Many people have mentioned anonymous acts of service by him and Joy throughout their lives. He served as a Bishop and almost every calling in the LDS church. He loved the youth and related to them well because he was always young in heart. He served as Stake Patriarch for over twenty years and blessed the lives of thousands. In his later years, he spent many hours in his woodshop making toys for the Church Humanitarian Center. Eric was also devoted to his grandson Brad who has special needs. They were best friends and loved watching Jazz games, BYU football, playing pool, and going out for Blizzards. Eric was a great blessing in Brad?s life that can never be replaced. We will miss his quick wit, his unique use of vocabulary, and his knowledge of songs and stories to entertain. Eric had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. His family has great comfort in knowing that he will be embraced by our Savior and by his family members who have preceded him. His mother, father, sisters, Irene and Olive, brothers, Donald, Rulon, Clyde, Leland, and his granddaughter Tara surely will be waiting with open arms for him. Eric is survived by his wife Joy Hogan, children Mike and Jane Hogan, and Pam and Alex Carr, his sister, Ruth Parry as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love him very much. Funeral Services will be held for the family on Monday March 5, 2007. Friends may call Sunday evening from 5-7 pm at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main.
