Ernest “Dee” Wolfe passed away unexpectedly on April 1, 2014. Dee was born on October 21, 1953 in Amarillo, Texas. He was the oldest son of Charlene and Herman Ernest Wolfe. He graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. Dee studied English and Philosophy at the University of Utah and he worked at the University’s Records Management office for more than 20 years.
Dee was an amazing author and poet. He played many musical instruments and had a wonderful singing voice. The following is Sue’s favorite of Dee’s poems:
A black-top quivers in the heat
In a field where I use to play;
One spindly oak is all that leaves-
Spring begins this day.
This weary lot sees fit to flower;
Blooms on the broken clay
Are bluer than my memory:
“Forget-me-not,” they say.
–Dee Wolfe
(Original version, composed sometime in the early to mid 80’s)
Dee married his sweetheart and best friend Sue in 1978 and they spent just over 36 years together. He was an incredible husband, father and fantastic grandfather. His greatest love was his family, especially his two young grandsons. We all cherish the memories of our countless car-trip vacations with Dee. On those trips, it wasn’t the destination so much as the journey. On many trips we’d see a sign and take a side road that led us somewhere amazing. There were more than a few where we ended up at a totally new destination than planned. For Dee, this pretty much describes his life.
Ernest Dee is survived by his wife; his two sons Robert and Mike (Victoria Strode); grandsons Andrew and Adam; mother Charlene; brothers Tom (Julie) and Paul (Julie); and sister Kathy (Al Lloyd); sisters-in-law Sally (Robert Slusher) and Nancy (Allen Lloyd). Also survived by his stepfamily Betty, Tom, Liz, Leah, Rachel, David and Danielle and many nieces and nephews and cherished friends. Preceded in death by his father Herman Ernest, and his two sisters, Elizabeth O’Dell and Teresa Laverne.
