Ernestine W. Held passed away on August 8th, 2018 while in the care of Abbington Manor in Lehi, UT.
On November 26th, 1927 in Sheridan, WY, Ernie was born on her Grandfather, Ernest Workman’s, 42nd birthday to parents Richard L. and Ferris Pratt Workman.
Ernie began her schooling in Sheridan until the family moved to Farmington, UT, in June 1942 where she continued her education at South Davis Jr. High.
While attending Davis High School, Ernie met her future husband, Melville B. (Tom) Held, Jr. Their courtship was put on hold while Tom served four years in the U.S. Navy.
When Tom received his honorable discharge in 1948, he returned home to marry Ernie on February 20th, 1949.
Tom and Ernie bought their historic rock home in Farmington in 1950 and it remained their home until Tom passed in 2016. Living in Farmington, Ernie was employed at the Davis County bank for 8 years and served as Farmington City Treasurer for 10 years.
Ernie had many passions; among them were American history, gardening, cooking, and reading/collecting books. Ernie was on the Farmington Preservation Committee, 11 years, was a member of the South Davis Garden Club, American Jr. Red Cross, and the Farmington Book Club.
Ernie’s true passion was her family which she always expressed through her much-anticipated Christmas Eve and Easter celebrations.
Preceded in death by the love of her life, Melville B. (Tom) Held, Jr., her three younger brothers, Dick, Eddie, and Bill Workman. Ernie is survived by her two sons Melville B. Held, III (Pam), John E. Held (Chris), her Sister-in-Law, Mary Jean Workman, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday the 18th of August at the Russon Mortuary, 1941 N. Main Street, Farmington UT at 11:00. Friends and family will be received from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service with interment to follow at the Farmington City Cemetery.
