Eugene John Moore

June 27, 1932 — May 27, 2022

Eugene John Moore, husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa passed peacefully away on May 27th, 2022, one month before his 90th birthday.

Gene was born in Ogden, Utah on June 27th, 1932, to Dave E Moore and Sylvia Hunter Moore.
He loved his three siblings, Cloyd, Doreen (Mordaunt), and Thelda (Bohman). Gene graduated from Ogden High in 1950 then served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war in 1952 to 1954. He was a Radioman 2nd Class (RM2) on the USS Floyd B. Parks (DD-884). He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Crawford, on April 8th, 1952. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 11th, 1963.

Dad enjoyed hard work all his life. During the summers he helped on Grandpa Hunter’s farm in Ogden. At age 12, he and his best friend, Paul Cowlishaw had their own bike repair shop. He entered the printing business while living in Alaska to be near Carol’s sister, Pauline Raleigh, and her family. In Alaska the family enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing for several years.

The family returned to Utah and Gene went to work for Sun Litho Printing. While there, he established ETC Bindery which employed several moms who would work while their children were in school or at night. These lovely ladies still talk about the fun they had and the stories they would tell while working. One of his colleagues at Sun Litho helped Dad enter the lawn fertilizing business.

In 1983, Gene and his son, David, started Ferta-Lawn of Bountiful with a 1969 Chevy truck and a 200-gallon tank in the back. Together they knocked on neighbors doors and grew their business. It quickly grew to two trucks and Gene’s youngest son, Blake, and his friend Rhett Noorda would help during the summers when they were 14 years old. Ferta-Lawn of Bountiful continues to be a success today, supporting many family members and others.

Many people knew Dad from his callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as Bishop of the Bountiful 36th Ward, Counselor in the Stake Presidency of the Bountiful South Stake, and Mission President in the Kingston, Jamaica Mission from 1997 to 2000. Mom and Dad loved the Jamaican people and the missionaries that served with them. Upon returning home, Dad was called as a Sealer in the St. George Temple.

Gene is survived by his wife, Carol; Vicki (Jerry) Beckman; DeEtte (Lyman) Gifford; Craig (Cynthia) Moore, Leslie (Brad) Rosser, David (Kona Dee) Moore, Blake (Jeannette) Moore, 28 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, as well as Brad Rosser (son-in-law), Guilma Moore (daughter-in-law), Tate Moore (grandson), and Derek Beckman (grandson).
Our family offers our sincere gratitude for the kind and extraordinary care from the nurses and staff at the Southern Utah VA Home in Ivins, Utah.

A viewing will be held on Friday, June 3rd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Russon Mortuary located at 295 North Main Street in Bountiful.

Graveside services for family members will be held on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00 am at the Bountiful City Cemetery located at 2224 South 200 West in Bountiful, Utah.
