Eva Suzanne Kent

July 1, 1947 — November 11, 2023

Suzanne, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday November 11, 2023 at the age of 76. She was born July 1, 1947 to Henry and Laura Garcia Stockfish.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Laura Garcia Stockfish, her brothers Terry, Danny, and Joe Stockfish, her ex-husband Harry McCarthy, her son Jay McCarthy, her stepsons Stanley and Steven Kent, and her great-granddaughter April Victoria Kent.

Suzanne was a woman of many talents. When she was a kid, she considered herself a bit of a tomboy. She would say that she could climb a tree better than any of the boys and she lived for sports. She was also part of 4H where she learned about sewing, cooking, and gardening.

Right after high school she married Harry McCarthy and during their 21 years of marriage they had two kids, Jay and Michelle McCarthy. Sue worked many different jobs during her life, such as receiving clerk in the stockroom at K-mart where she fought hard to be paid the same as the men, and a mail carrier with the post office. Her time at the post office had the most impact and it wasn't because of the many awards she received for exceptional service, but because that is where she met the love of her life Robert Stanley Kent.

Sue and Bob were married on May 12, 1990 and were later sealed in the Bountiful temple. When they got married she became an instant grandma to 22 grandchildren. Spending time with her grandma as a child were some of the best memories she had, so becoming a grandma was something she always wanted and something she excelled at! Her grandchildren loved her as much as she loved them.

In retirement, Sue served for 4 years in the Ogden LDS cannery, as well as in the LDS Bountiful Temple as a temple worker. She served everyone she met. When she wasn't doing that she was helping raise or tending grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, card-making, baking, crocheting, card games, and Sudoku. Every grandchild upon graduating high school received a custom crocheted afghan from grandma, something I know each of us will always cherish. She also made thousands of beanie hats, many of which were donated to Primary Children's Hospital, and crocheted many afghans to donate to the women's shelters.

Suzanne is survived by Robert, her husband of 33 years, her daughter Michelle, daughter-in-law Tiffany Merrill, her sister Jane Wilsey, sister-in-law Andrea Stockfish, brother David (Colleen Stockfish), step-children: Sandra (James Gentry), Robert Kent (Marilyn), Jennie (Gaylen Smith), and SaraJane (Raymond Slack), 31 grandchildren, and 62 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Sunday November 19, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Russon Mortuary located at 295 N. Main St Bountiful, UT 84010. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 20, 2023 with a viewing an hour prior from 9:45-10:45 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Bountiful 10th Ward, located at 1145 North 200 East Bountiful, UT 84010. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Lawn located at 2350 E 1300 S Salt Lake City, UT 84108.

Grandma Sue was the glue that held our families together. She will be remembered for the many handmade cards sent on birthdays and Christmas, Easter egg hunts, Christmas pajamas, Bingo at Pineview, family barbecues, many incredible and delicious baked goods and homemade meals. She will also be remembered for her warm and caring nature, her dedication to her family, friends, and neighbors, her selfless service, her constant picture taking which she used to fill beautiful scrapbooks with memories and keepsakes, her love and compassion for children, her loud voice and even louder laugh, her feisty competitive side, her endless supply of candy, and most importantly her ability to make every single grandchild and great-grandchild feel special and loved. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones and all who knew her.

Services will be streamed live on Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and this obituary page.
