Eva Marie Corbett Chambers

August 16, 1924 — September 19, 2017

Our dear matriarch, Eva Marie Corbett Chambers, 93, peacefully passed away in Bountiful, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, surrounded by family and angels.  Eva was born August 16, 1924, to Daniel James and Ida Ardella Jenson Corbett in Salt Lake City, the oldest daughter among 5 brothers and four sisters: Daniel Otis, James Edward, Ardella, Bonna Mae, John Alfred, William LeRoy, Mary LaRue, and Alvin Duane.

Eva graduated from South High, and attended LDS Business College.  She married Farrell Ronald Fletcher in 1944, but sadly became a young widow after Farrell's U.S. Navy ship was hit by enemy fire.  She then served in the Central States Mission, 1946-1947, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Two years later, Eva married Harold Brower Chambers, himself a WWII veteran and widower.  Harold built their beautiful family home in Bountiful where they welcomed their eight children: seven sons and one daughter. After their children were raised, they moved to a new Centerville townhome.

Even at 5'1", Eva was known for her boundless energy-always early to rise.  She maintained meticulous family financial records, stretched pennies into dollars, kept score at sons' baseball games, cooked from scratch, and canned vigorously throughout each summer.  She freely gave hugs and kisses but played a mean game of Five Crowns.  Eva participated fully as a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, kept a journal for 70+ years and studied scriptures daily.  She served diligently in many stake and ward callings, from visiting teacher to Stake Relief Society President, and ardently supported her husband in his ecclesiastical callings. Six sons served missions, and five sons, plus her son-in-law, have served as bishops.

Eva lived as a true Christian, sharing her homemade bread, visiting neighbors, caring for aged parents, standing for truth, speaking only positively about others, and praying continually.  A passion for family history was inherited from her father; she devoted countless hours to genealogical organization and research as well as extracting thousands of German and Latin records.  Harold and Eva served in the Bristol England Mission, 1986-1987.

Motherhood was Eva's greatest joy!  She leaves a considerable legacy: 8 children, 48 grandchildren, and 101+ great grandchildren.  We all strive to honor the good name and heritage she gifted us.  Our hearts are interwoven with her sweet love-imbedded in our memories forever.  Preceding her in death:  her husband Harold; her parents; brothers Daniel, John, and Alvin; sisters Ardella, and Mary; and grandson Eric Tadd Peterson.  She is survived by sons:  LeRoy Corbett (Sherrie) of Kaysville; Craig Harold (Carolyn Taylor) of Bountiful; David Corbett (Christie) of Centerville; Kent Corbett (Annette) of West Bountiful; Wayne Corbett (Vicki) of Bountiful; Scott Corbett (Caroll) of Bellingham, WA; Paul Corbett (Andrea) of Idaho Falls, ID; and daughter, Beth Ardell (Tadd Peterson) of North Salt Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 25th at Russon Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street. Viewings will be at the mortuary Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. and Monday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.; interment at Centerville Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations are recommended to the Missionary Fund of the LDS Church.  Special thanks to the devoted staff of the Inn on Barton Creek and the unsung heroes who serve the Barton Creek Branch of the Bountiful East Stake.
