Evelyn Wagstaff Purdie, 89, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2022, in Kaysville, Utah. She was born May 6th, 1933, in West Weber, Utah, to Parley L. Wagstaff and Eliza Blanch Wagstaff. She grew up on a farm in West Weber and that is where she learned the value of hard work. She helped her parents and brothers, Duane and Brent, and sister, LaNea, with the many jobs that had to be done each day on the farm. They would hoe sugar beets, pick potatoes, milk cows, and tromp down loose hay so more could be put on the wagon, along with many other chores. They had school clothes and work clothes and the two were never interchanged.
Evelyn graduated from Weber High School in 1951. Her senior yearbook says: “Evelyn Wagstaff, ‘Red’ …. Here is a tiny little girl…. petite, dainty, and demure… has a quiet charm and a warm smile.” She worked in the business office at Dee Hospital in Ogden for three years. In June of 1954 she married Glen S. Purdie. They had three children, Karen, Mark, and Scott. They later divorced. She married Domenic Giaquinto in December of 1979 and later divorced but remained good friends until his death. They often got together, and Domenic would cook his famous spaghetti and meatballs. She worked as the office manager at General Distributing Co. for over 40 years where she ran a very tight ship. We would like to thank those at General Distributing Co. for their love and support. Evelyn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an avid Utah Jazz and University of Utah fan. She loved watching their games and so we knew not to call when one of those teams were playing on TV.
Evelyn loved her family, and they were her greatest joy. She is survived by her children, Karen (Dave) Breitenbeker and Mark (Lisa) Purdie. Her grandchildren include Nicole (Peter) Farrell, Michael (Michele) Breitenbeker, Paul Breitenbeker, Kellianne Breitenbeker, Jennifer (Jake) Chadwick, Matt (Kelly) Purdie, Dan Purdie, Ryan Purdie, and Chris (Jen) Purdie, and her 17 great grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents, her dear son, Scott, her brother, Duane Wagstaff, her sister, LaNea Rawson, and her grandson, Bryan Jensen.
The family would like to thank Country Care Assisted Living, Baer Creek Assisted Living, and Symbii Hospice, along with her nurse, Jodi, for their tender care in her last days.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Primary Children’s Hospital or the American Diabetes Association.
