Fern Johnson Newman 1914 – 2011

Fern Johnson Newman, our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully December 19, 2011, to join her family on the other side just in time for Christmas. She was blessed to pass in the comfort of her own home with her loved ones by her side and was undoubtedly greeted by many other loved ones in the spirit world. Fern was born September 19, 1914 in Mantua, Ut., daughter of Edwin A. and Emma Amelia Anderson Johnson.

She graduated from Box Elder High School, attended LDS Business College, and served a full-time mission for the LDS Church in the Eastern States Mission. September 29, 1937, she married Ell Roy S. Newman in the Salt Lake Temple September 29, 1937. She worked 30 years in various positions at ZCMI,

Fern became a true daughter of Christ as she gave so willingly to others. She held many callings in her Orchard 2nd Ward in Bountiful and served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, two sisters, husband, and one son and is survived by three daughters and one sonLueen Kaye Hatch and Pat Sampson of Bountiful, Jo Ann Gillespie (Gary) of Farmington, and Clarence Newman (Bethany) of Centerville21 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, at 12 noon at the Orchard 2nd Ward, 3707 South 800 West, Bountiful, Utah, where friends may call 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery, Brigham City, Utah.
