Flora LaNore Jensen

January 13, 1917 — July 20, 2013

Flora LaNore Webb Keller-Jensen 96, passed away, surrounded by her family, on July 20, 2013, in Bountiful, Utah.
Flora was born January 13, 1917 in LaVerkin, Utah, to Pearl and Samuel Webb. She married Leslie Floyd Keller in June, 1936, and together they raised 5 children. Floyd died in August 1981 and she later married James Claire Jensen, who preceded her in death.
While growing up in LaVerkin, Flora participated in the family fruit farm, high school musicals, and stealing watermelons out of her uncles fields at night with her friends. After graduating from Hurricane High School, she played the piano at the weekend dances in Southern Utah. On one of those occasions, a handsome Park Ranger named Floyd Keller from Zion National Park appeared at one of those dances. He immediately fell in love with the beautiful girl playing the piano. He soon joined her with his banjo and eventually charmed her into marriage. As a young bride of 19 years of age, they started their adventure in Glacier National Park, Montana where Floyd was promoted to Ranger Naturalist. The next assignment was to Waterton National Park. While living in these beautiful, but freezing locations, Flora went on ski patrol with Floyd, fished, fought off bears as they came out of hibernation, and broke into her little cabin (Floyd was on ski patrol for periods of time leaving her alone). On one occasion she shot a big grizzly bear with her shotgun as he attempted to break a window and enter her cabin. It was here that their first child was born.
They lived in Yosemite National Park, Petrified Forest National Park Arizona, Painted Desert AZ., and Death Valley, National Monument, CA. After retiring from the Park Service in Death Valley, CA., in 1955, they moved to Las Vegas. Flora attended Stevens-Henegar Business College graduating with a Secretarial Degree. She later worked as a secretary for the City of Las Vegas where she worked for Parks and Recreation for 26 years.
Flora was a strong and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities including ward organist and ordinance worker in the Las Vegas Temple. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and was sought after to play at weddings and social events. She also loved being with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and loved dancing and singing. She had a fun-loving spirit, an infectious laugh and loved practical jokes. She loved wearing purple, high heels, and her signature red lipstick.
She is survived by Lynn (Mary Ann) Keller, Henderson, Nevada; Myrna (Dave) Phillips, Bountiful, Utah; RaNae Powell, Bountiful, Utah; Kathy (Taylor) Davis, Farmington, Utah; and Scott (Karen) Keller, Bountiful, Utah; 25 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 E. Mueller Park Road (1800 South), Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the Welcome Home staff and heartfelt appreciation to the Hospice nurses who tenderly cared for our sweet Mom.
