Florence Thomas Pitts was born October 27, 1917 in Bountiful, Utah to Orval Loy Thomas and Florence Ida Knighton. She died peacefully on March 11, 2014 in Bountiful, Utah. She grew up in Price, Utah with her brother and 5 sisters. She graduated from Carbon High School in 1934, then attended Post High School where she was the only girl in the class. She went on to college to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Utah, after which she taught school for many years. She married Doyle Robison Pitts, April 29, 1935 and they were sealed in the temple October 9, 1939. She is the mother of six children: Judy Madsen, Richard (Margaret) Pitts, Joan (Frank-deceased) Behunin, Alan (Konnie) Pitts, Marilyn (Kent) Burningham, and Mark Pitts.
Florence was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness. Her very first calling came at age 14 when she was called to teach Jr. Sunday School. She was an accomplished musician, playing the clarinet and the piano. She played the piano and organ in church for 80 years, still playing recently for FHE each week at Welcome Home these last years of her life. She enjoyed singing in many choirs, including the Tabernacle Choir for four years. She worked in the MIA with music and dance festivals bringing the youth up from Price to SLC for the performances.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11am, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main in Bountiful. A viewing will be held at 9:30 am.
