Florence Watts Roberts

Florence passed away Sunday October 2, 2016 at the age of 93, in Bountiful, Utah. Florence was born in Kanosh, Utah on January 5, 1923 to Robert and Florence Bowen Watts.  She moved to San Francisco in her mid-teens to help her older sister Irene, and later worked for the telephone company.  She met Edward C. Roberts at a USO dance in San Francisco, fell in love and soon moved to Portland, Oregon and was married upon her arrival, July 18, 1942.  The family moved to Chico, California in 1952, with their three children, Larry, Janet and Dennis.

Life in Chico was ideal, Florence’s brothers also being in Chico and in the trades helped build the family home in 1955.   Florence was a stay at home mom that ran the household and raised the children while husband Ed worked for P.G &E. Many will remember the wonderful meals she fed to family and friends who visited her home.  Florence was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Florence and Ed retired in 1973 and moved to San Diego and later to Sun City, California to enjoy the better weather and year around golf.  Ed died in 2009 at the age of 90 and Florence moved to Bountiful, Utah in 2010.  She settled into Barton Creek Assisted Living where she was near her daughter Janet and her family.

Florence was also preceded in death by her parents Robert and Florence Watts and her thirteen brothers and sisters: Myrtle, Shirrel, Irene, Laurel, Nelson, Helen, Earl, Dorothy, Clifford, Naomi, Ralph, Evelyn and Louise.  Florence is survived by her three children Larry (Terry), Auburn, CA, Janet (Glenn) Gold, Bountiful, UT, and Dennis, Hilo, HI, 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The Family would like to thank the staff and loving caregivers at Barton Creek as well as, Julie, Rachel and Deanna from CNS Hospice for the love and help they gave to Florence. And a special thanks to her loving friends, Ken, Jeanette and Debbie.

Florence was a loving, caring woman, mother and wife who was always ready to help to support her children, friends and family.  She will be missed by all who knew her.  

A viewing will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 1:00-1:30pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. At Florence’s request, a graveside service will be held that afternoon at 2:00pm at Bountiful City Cemetery 2200 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah. In lieu of flowers Florence has requested donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Humanitarian Fund.
