Our mother, Florine Wood Boes, peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, 7 June 2018 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born 17 September 1917 in Bountiful to Oscar Howard Wood and Zina Elizabeth Porter Wood. She was 100 years old.
Florine grew up in the Val Verda area and attended schools in Bountiful. Her father had a farm with orchards and a vineyard. The fruit grown in this area gave Orchard Drive its name.
She was born into a big extended family, with lots of cousins. Woods Cross was named for her great grandfather Daniel Wood. Florine's mother had twins 13 months after Florine was born – then later four more children; so she had many responsibilities in their home. She graduated from Davis High School in 1935 and rode back and forth to Kaysville on the Bamberger.
Florine married Herman W. Boes, 29 May 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. They started their lives together with a small apartment in Salt Lake and a 1939 Ford Coupe. She was born during WWI and married during WWII. Herm served in the Army Air Corp and was lucky to be assigned to a weather station in Montana near the Canadian border where Florine could join him. Herm was later transferred to the East coast and slated for the invasion of Japan, when the war ended.
Florine was a homemaker and also worked in the offices of Beeline, Husky, and the Wesreco oil refineries. During their early married life, she and Herm lived in Hunt, Idaho; Fredonia, Arizona; Cedar City and Bountiful. They loved the South/West and when they retired built a home in Mesa, Arizona. They later moved to St George, then Santa Clara, Utah. In 2008 they moved back to Bountiful. Herm passed away in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Carol, Beth, Ella, and Don. She is survived by two brothers, Carlos and Ralph; son Steven (Suzanne) Boes; daughter Pat (Rich) Higham; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Per her wishes a graveside service was held with her children and grandchildren at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation for the loving care given by the staff at the Legacy House Cottage in Bountiful and Florine's hospice nurses from Legacy Home Health Care, Stefanie and Nancy. There were wonderful, patient, and kind.
