Floyd Hyer Hogan, age 95 was born in Woods Cross, UT on April 20, 1917 and passed away on September 13, 2012. He was the fourth of Walter F. and Elizabeth Hyer Hogan’s six children. As a youth, his greatest desire was to fly. . .and he did!
For over thirty years he served his country in the Navy, the Army Air Corps, and the United States Air Force. As a pilot in WWII he flew missions over North Africa, Sicily, and on D-Day over Normandy.
He and his wife served several missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; including as Mission President in Bangkok, Thailand from 1982-1985; and as Temple President in the Manila, Philippines Temple from 1987-1990. Everyone who knew Floyd understood that he was forever striving to live and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, both by word and by example.
Floyd is survives by his wife Catherine and six children and their spouses. Sandra Lynn and Richard Coletti, Scott and Judy Hogan, Suzanne Hogan and Bob Sawatzki, Spencer Hogan, Lise and Roger Tuttle and Steven and Joan Hogan. He was proud of his 14 grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. His last words to family were, “I love you.”
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Bountiful Hills Ward Chapel, 1200 East Bountiful Hills Drive. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Monday morning 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment – Bountiful City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Perpetual Education Fund.
